The thing is there is no perfect MMO, but sadly there are no good ones either. Yes, people can bullshit about MMO x or y being great but in the end they all fail to give us the same amount of enthralling things like in solo player games. Solo player games must have a great variety of things you can do like certain missions, an interesting story, etc. These games need to impress and entertain the individual. MMO's should give a better experience because you can enjoy a big world, good story and missions together. But every single MMO -----s up: it's always grind mobs or pvp (with very limited options), bad or no story at all, overpriced cashshops, cluncky combat, retarded AI for mobs, bad voice acting, a big world that feels empty and repetitiveness all over. The only thing some MMO's get right are the size of the map and graphics. And I don't know why people still defend poor development of MMO's, they seem to be happy with unfinished MMO's. Yes in BDO you're not bound to a pre-made story, but saying that you can follow you're own story is just a lie you tell yourself. There is no such thing as own story progression whatsoever in this game.

How to make BDO a WoW-killer
    Hey folks,

Let's get right to it! BDO has lot's of content... Hiding somewhere behind lot's and lot's of boring NPC talk.  And everybody knows there is lore and story behind the setting of BDO but it just doesn't show, you have to actively search for it.
And as most of us will agree upon, long searching for the lore and story in an MMORPG-sandbox doesn't actually help players to bond with the world.  The motto of "The New World" is quiet cynical: "A world every player can call it's home" but what does that "home" mean, when you don't have a clue on what's going on in the world?  I value the efforts of the devs for updating this game in an insane fast way, I do, but they should focus on more than just new area's and awakenings...
The feeling I have amongst many other players is that you can do like a lot of things in BDO but there is no point in doing them unless you want to be the best crafter, do endless pvp, grinding mobs, have the best gear, reach way beyond your awakening.... A lot of those listed things you can do in other games, games that are too superficial.
I have some ideas/concepts that might make players bond more with the BDO world:
A lot of NPC's are too stationairy is one of the first problems I want to tackle. I know it is quiet demanding of pc's but please make NPC's do more than just wave or some emote, let them walk around, carry out their jobs, "talk to other NPC's. I know there are NPC's who already travel and do other "tasks" but not quiet enough. Look at skyrim, for example that maid at the forge, in the noon she was forgeing weapons, at another point in the day she was in her shop, at night in her bed,.... Or the witcher for example, with it's breathing world, NPC's do stuff, they have emotions  and interesting conversations with other NPC's,...A second improvement would be more and better cut-scenes, even for side quests. In the beginning of the game there should be more explanation about the black desert (I didn't know why this game was called black desert until the valencia update came out... And still it's a weird name but that's off topic). Cut-scenes help the players to understand why they must do there quests, what's going on in the world, what bad guys there are or wich wars there are spreading across the land. In side-quests it would be nice since some NPC's their stories will capture you and you know why you do that stuff, instead of reading every (boring) dialogue or book to get a grasp of what's going on. Cut-scenes would clarify why goblins are at a certain location and attacking those villages and cities, why you have a blackspirit folowing you what it's purpose is and if has a secret agenda or not, is that spirit evil or good for you who knows.... And yes there are people who will know the explanation for these questions, but frankly, as a player you shouldn't have to search for everything you want to know aka knowledge system...More and better dynamic events, look at Guild Wars 2 (and for some aspects to WoW and Diablo III) not the greatest game(s) in my opinion but what I did like about the game(s) is the fact that there were dynamic events on a massive scale. Not just some world bosses spawning twice a day or some whale ready to be hunted. But actually mobs attacking  villages, dosens of raids through high level area's, mob elite hunting parties on the road that "terrorize" the lands and you had to kill them to "free" the NPC's of the danger.MOST IMPORTANT: Tell a better story and make it more visible/highligted. Entice players in the BDO world to become the hero or villain what they want to be, help them to create their own story with unique expierences but try to maintain a red line in the story. The story should tell what the "black" desert is, the danger of the black spirits, where your class comes from, why your soul is linked with a black spirit, what goals you should try to achieve  (like killing a bad guys, evil mobs,...). The BDO devs will bring the players new domains/realms/area's but what is going on there, what is the story behind those new landmasse's, are there new bad guys (like sorcerers, necromancers, dragons) players need to kill to "complete" the story of those new area's? That being said, I hope the devs will notice this post and take their time to think about what's being said here. If they do, and they implement it in the game in a right way => then I am certain that players will bond more with the world; there will come a massive amount of new players to BDO because then there is finnaly an MMO who really differentiates itself from others by creating a gameworld where players can dive into and lose themselves, following a good story line instead of what other MMO's do ( => killing mobs = the entire game).

Yeah, MMO(RPG's) are lacking content for non PvP players, what every true fantasy fan wants with an MMO is go in the world do meaningfull quests/tasks, dungeons and go out there with friends and do fun things in parties. But in this game we all look kinda the same unless you pay for costumes, there are so few armor and weapon sets: like I never got a better weapon from a drop, I can't forge better weapons, I only can buy better weapons and than bring 'em to 15+ and afterwards to pri, duo,... This last part would be nicer if there were like a bunch of weapon and armor sets and if it were a lot easier for common weapons, than green, blue, yellow and the hardest for orange if there were legendary weapons.

Yes you're totally right Lynkx! I do play Diablo 3, and I enjoy it a lot. And yeah I would ask BDO devs they would only bring high level area's to the game with dungeones, traps, puzzles, because I think the "end game" is so lacking if you don't want to PvP. You can go out and hunt, repetitive boss scrolls, fish to death, or guild shit.

Lucky you  it's just a shame that only a few persistent players can enjoy an awakening and that if the ever wanted to change to awakening with other classes they would have to endure the same "pain" all over again

Well you can use you're 200% scroll for half an hour... Like that will do much  the thing is, I want to try out multiple awakenings but it's impossible because of the time it would take, I should choose one class and grind to death just to be a high enough level to obtain an awakening. Doing the same proces for like 5 or 6 characters would be a waste of time.

Well I guess it's the diference between Asia and the West. There grinding is like the coolest thing on earth while in the West we need a big striking progressive main story, character progression and a lot of things to do. Maybe that's why a lot of players here are having trouble to get into BDO, they're doing a great job by adding new content at a regular basis but they should adapt the RNG and grind to Western "demands" because many players don't enjoy the endlessly killing the same mobs again. Yes there is cool PvP stuff but... There are like a bunch of players who just want to PvE along side there friends without getting bored by killing the same mobs over and over again... we want to explore without being one hitted in nearly impossible regions.
Indeed it's such a drag just to get to level 56...

Yeah I know, but isn't it insane that it's so hard for you to just gain one level?

Isn't it weird that BDO offers us the ability on level 56 to have an awakening and that it's also one of the highest levels regular players can achieve? It's like 5 levels away from the highest ranked player in Korea (who probably plays BDO 24/7 and started way before we had our hands at BDO in the EU). I think that that player should have been at least level 80 or 90 so that the level cap at 100 would make sense. Basically, just my opinion though, I think they should lower the level to have an awakening because starting at lvl 56 is way to high for occasional players, mayb they should introduce an ultimate awakening skill or form at level 60 for the grinders among us and the "normal" awakenings that are coming out now for level 45 or 50 players so that everybody can enjoy them.

Exactly, you can get to 100 but it's impossible, so why bother? I think we should bother because everybody likes when he or she leveled up so why make it so impossible in the "End Game"? If the cap was on 60 it would be hard to get there but is manageable, but getting higher than 60 now is really way too hard and pointless since this game is gear based. That's, I guess, the lamest part for me about this game that if a level 1 guy gets like full +15 magically he would beat the crap out of me while I'm lv 52 so that's not really balanced. Levels should show a players' persistence, aquired strength and "skill", and at the max level players should be stronger or weaker based on their gaming skill and gear they've aquired.

This is kind of what I mean, players are not able to get to level 65 or higher. It's weir thet you can go from 0 to 50 in one day but from 50 to 65 is nearly impossible, the needed exp to level is mutliplied by over 9000, so eihter getting from 0 to 50 is inbalanced and 2 easy or levelling after level 50 or 60 is too hard. They should gradually increase the needed exp and not at some level drastically increase the needed exp.

Yeah, you have point there. There is no need to rush levels but I feel a bit like there is no meaning to get higher level. I'm now 52 and I kind of lost directions on what to do. I can't just do boss scrolls over and over again. And grinding to level gets a bit boring after a while and gaining levels doesn't matter as much as it should like in other games, and grinding for gear would be cool if they would make you look completly different, but we all know that the items you find are often similar in apperance, there are exceptions to this rule but still too few. If you want to distinguish yourself you need to buy costumes and that's the part I don't like about the most MMORPG's, namely their cashshop/business model. Like in free 2 play games I can get why they have them, but this game cost 30 to 50 dollars and you still don't have the "whole" game, luckily it's not too pay to win but if you want to have a pet, cool looking armor for yourself or your horse you need to pay for it. In Asia there is less a problem with pay to win MMO's but in Europe and America there is, just look at the dozens of rant video's on youtube about cashshops, P2W models etc. . And at this point BDO is starting to feel like a real good game if it were free-to-play, but to pay 30 euro's for it is maybe a long shot, yes we get a lot of updates and that's cool but sincerly, I'ld rather pay 60 euros on an MMO where you get everything, no cashshop or microtransactions at all than paying 30 euro's on a game where there still are microtransactions and shit.

It creates diversity and it's rather a psychologic thing: Moderate players ar 50 and I'm 60 vs moderate players are 50 to 70 and I'm 100. You see what I mean, indeed in BDO is gear more important than level but still, I think it would be cool to have a higher level cap, I respect other opinons than my own

If I were a pretty low level it wouldn't go so slow  The thing is level 40 to 50 you can do in a day, level 50 to 60 would take like a week or more, they should gradually increase the necesary exp, not a steep change like you hit on a wall. I think the level cap must become higher, like in other games take runescape for example you can go to level 120.
