Got similar problems, but then again, my net has been scetchy for half a day now...

Ah, the myth of the "WoW killer" is pretty much done for... there is only one WoW killer, WoW it self.
I agree with the rest... I would even go as far as to say that the industry should never have started to try an copy "that game", but rather innovate and use the sudden influx of new players to the hobby to fuel new and varied products... sadly, they didn't, the quick cash was more appealing to them, I guess.
I, for one, will "go back" to WoW to take a look at the expansion - as always - but that never detracted be from other games I play before, and I doubt I will stay longer then a few months this time.... and I probably will have quit BDO long before that, if Daum doesn't how major signs of change.

True, and BDO already has a reputation... that ultimately will be the biggest reason for people leaving/not picking it up in the first place.
Again, love it or hate it, but there is no discussion about any MMO whiteout WoW coming up regularly... that's the world we live in, the market Blizzard created.

Since the release of WoW, they are... that's the impact the game had on the market. Without those ~10 mil players hopping between WOW and other MMO's regularly, the market - heck, the concept - would have been dead and buried years ago.

Aside from the profession outfits, there really is not more then what you see in the character creation (excluding the P market ones, those are cash shop too)... at least for now. It comes down to 2-3 different designs per class.

    Steamy... that analogies, though.

Starting with Ultima Online? Many... it just, as I said, looks more impressive. Aside from spawn zones and the 20 or so hand crafted locations, the world is largely empty. Sure, it's scattered with randomized plants, stones and debris, making it appear to be more interesting then it actually is, but it really isn't. Compared with the almost 100% handcrafted locations in games like ESO or vanilla WoW, it doesn't hold a candle in terms of creativity and variety. That's a "right now" assessment, mind you...
The same goes for story/quest content. Hardly anything is voice acted - with NPC's spouting the same lines over and over - and aside from the lore entries, there isn't even that much text to be found... I mean, did you go to Calpheon library? There are roughly 30 "books" to read, but each one only contains two, or so lines.
Bottom line: The game really isn't as big and interesting as it appears to be, and comparing it to ESO (a game I hate, mind you) in terms of content is... well, ESO cost roughly 50 times as much as BDO, so.

That's objectively not true... sure, it looks pretty, but it's far from well crafted and/or polished...

It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation... in my opinion, selling of CS items should be allowed, but regulated. Also, the possibility of attaining pets as well as basic colors and color removal items, should be reintroduced into the game (it was in the Korean Beta). Combine that with the restoration of removed armor sets, and you'd get near what a b2p title should offer... then, and only then, the current cash shop prices would be somewhat acceptable.

...and there is that. It might not classify as p2w, but it is an added factor.

As do other companies for less money... there exists such a thing as an objectively "bad business model".

All those little things are reared for maximum profit, not player convenience... same with BnS, while their cash shop is more fairly priced, everything you buy is still character bound... BDO sticks out so much because they employ so many of those "tricks"... RNG, dye boxes, one use dyes, character resets that expire with time, etc. it's pretty much all there.

  13. WarBaby2 added a post in a topic Blatant cash grabs are a major turn off

It's disrespectful because it's not believable, for that alone (keeping the game alive) the pricing shouldn't be that high... all the content is already made in Korea first, where it is already payed for by their cash shop, so all they have to do over here is localization (which can be - and evidently has been - very cheaply outsourced), server upkeep and staff.
So, there are only two explanations for our pricing model: Either Daum NA/EU's costs are that much higher then that of any other f2p publisher that's hosting an eastern game in the West, or they are deliberately nickle and diming the Western audience...

As I said, you can't really hate on the PR guys, they have to sell it, whether they like it or not... apologetics on the forums on the other hand.

Either buyers remorse or s/he has stock...

Right, and this feeling will not come simply by some PR guys telling us the stuff is worth it, while the actual evidence to the contrary can be seen in game everywhere...

I doubt Daum KR ever had to defend their decisions to their market - that's not how Asians roll - so the NA/EU division is most likely stuck with trying to sell the same stuff to a much more vocal and inquisitive audience... and no, I don't believe the changes we got are 100% directed by the local team.
Be that as it may, I don't envy these guys...

Well, there is a reason companies like King have a net worth of billions of €.
It seams to be rather easy to give western customers the impressions something is "worth the asking price"...

The interview has made it's rounds already, and the argumentation doesn't fly... there are games out there that offer the roughly same amount of content, are f2p and have a fairly prices cash shop. Also: The community manager and the head of PR are hardly the right people to ask about the pricing, since they aren't the ones making any decisions... thy just have to make them look good.

  20. WarBaby2 added a post in a topic Ingame Armor does have Helmet Models but they are hidden on purpose.

That's the gamble Daum is apparently willing to take... knowing what I now know about all the changes made to, even the Korean version, just to get people to buy more CS stuff, I probably will never use the shop, no matter the prices.

  21. WarBaby2 added a post in a topic Is this for real? Helmets are actually in game?

According to Black Desert DB, only Witches/Wizards and, I think, Ninja armors even have helmet models in NA/EU client, so that's probably some kind of glitch.

    Who said I trust Google?
Also: What irks you so much? You got stock with Daum/PA or something? All I'm doing is speculating about the motives behind certain business decisions of the publisher at hand... I never claimed be right, or righteous, self or otherwise.

You can call it imagination, I call it experience, but ok... I for one am not putting my trust into a company that was already investigated by the FTC for unethical business practices in the past. *shrugs*

True, also: Blaming the fact that the game turned out to be b2p on the community is nice, as if Daum has really listened to anything the community said up until now... no, believe me, they where all to happy to (for now) disallow the selling of cash shop items on the market - a move that is almost guaranteed to give them more revenue - in favor of a huge chunk of per-order money... compared to the other version, they basically tripled their potential income on the game, and their claim they did it to "combat gold sellers and p2w" is downright insulting in hindsight.

Right now, it does... all those people that payed 100€ for the conquerors pack where prepared to pay major money on the game for months... needless to say, it won't last... one problem with having such a "high class" (read brazenly greedy) pricing model is, you narrow your target audience even more, and at some point you have to go cheaper to keep up sales, at which point you sadly start to pi** off the people that payed much more before, and the downward spiral begins... take a look at what happened to EVE a couple of years ago - they never recovered fully.
