  1. Considering what ranger was the literal first 3/4s of this game's existence in NA, I think u guys deserve some sit down time.

  2. Simple, because graphics and game engine capabilities. If we were to just evaluate bdo simply just on polish in terms of world design, detail, and combat system (not gameplay itself), bdo has a lot of potential to offer, so much so that it sometimes eclipses it's endless gameplay flaws. I always think if bdo had better gameplay it could have been the mmo of the decade but alas, it went typical grind route.

  3. Lmao just play bdo on and off, don't make ur "aim" to be "competitive" in an MMO. It just doesn't make sense to have your enjoyment in MMO's solely rely on the fact that you're "competitive" and "top in the server". Trying to be competitive in an mmo is like trying to go hardcore mlg on an RPG. 

    Just play at your own pace and make bdo a side game. Your main game if You ever want to be competitive should be in games that have an esports community where skill and talent is the currency. Try playing for honor or something, maybe that will take u off the mmo grinding edge.

  4. This current DP buff that the devs pushed out has been tested many of the times on the KR client, and decided as little to no change. Although, the developers are testing many interesting ideas on the new PvP test servers on the KR client. Last week the guild that won siege was able to have acess to the test servers for 24 hours. This week, after the oasis festival, the test servers were open for several days again for the guild that won- from April 8th to April 13th. 

    Here is Elsha Uriel's video that summarized and displayed some of the tested changes. Nothing has reached live client yet. Basically, 1 comboing any class will no longer be possible if this goes through- and every class will have a chance of surviving if you don't play skillfully. 


    ye people on the kr server are really hyped about this rn. If only bdo pvp felt more like For Honor pvp... hmmmm....

  5. well i was expecting a thread on how DP is actually gonna be viable with the new shift in stat balancing, seems like this turned into another shitpost.


    What should have been said here is how now they're shifting towards a more stable gameplay style that's less based on who gets first cc/hit and rather who plays consistently better than the other player, enough so that you land on average more successful CC and hits to win rather than a flip of a coin everyone glass cannon-ing like retards.

If we wanna get really Technically Redpilled here then theyre just doing exactly what I said they'd HAVE to do which was effectively just nerf the Chain Burst on Awakenings...  Via Buffing Primary weapon, then Buffing DP (also confirmed).   So basically something they could have done in a single Month, is now stretched out to 8 months just so it's less obvious to everyone that the original Awakenings aren't as strong anymore in the overall Meta.

    Following this they'll also probably have to go back and buff up the HP's of Sausan mobs and any other Mediah mobs or they'll go even more Heel-turn and just nerf the $$$ of their Drops



    Considering the teaser ends with a Rasengan  ... probably something really ellaborate + stupid  and not Monk-like at all

    yep, I kept saying that they were planning to buff pre awakening substantially along with DP. The devs has been saying this all along that they were not happy with the 1 combo insta-kill mechanics of the current meta and strongly felt like pre-awakenings were becoming irrelevant especially on warrior. I've been telling people this for the longest time cuz the KR server knew this for ages but kids on NA prefer the current meta so they desperately tried to deny the truth in it.

    Any recommendations to visit if i get around to go on vacation in China?

    Since i also want to visit their country and since you lived their for year you might know some spots to visit.

    if you wanna visit china's best place that is away from any form of pollution and still has it's actual ethnic minorities intact, you HAVE to visit Yunnan, it's warm 70 degree weather all year round (except on the mountains). Basically you'll land in Kunming (nick named the spring city cuz of teh perfect weather all year round) and from there you can head towards all the tourist sites all the way to the legendary shangri La and the old preserved ancient chinese villages that are still preserved well today and have people living in them like LiJiang:

    Doesn't really matter to me, if the awakening becomes some kind of super saiyajin then i know the devs at Korea like Japanese manga :P

    as an asian mix from several asian countries and having lived in china for years, let me break it to ya, japanese manga is like prevalent in all asian culture on a surface level so yes they are influenced by it if you're still wondering. and because the concept artists are the ones who make these characters, you can be sure they will 100% bring japanese manga influences into their work. "manga" and "anime" arent even a "thing" in many asian countries, its jsut a style everyone in asia Draws in. In america it's a novelty, in china/korea/other east asian countreis, even memes are in anime style.

    This is the first time we're hearing about this though, so take it with a grain of salt. It was, after all, the same stream that announced "climbing" as a life skill. 

    Well the translation here this time is pretty damn direct and clear.
    I know a shitton of people on other servers, especially ex-warrior mains (before warrior turned into its 1-button GS shitshow) is super hyped about playing warrior the real way it's meant to be played again.

  10. lmao i called it. no one believed it at the time, I knew the devs were looking into increasing DP stat usefulness (cuz they actually explicitly stated the concern) ever since they released awakenings on kr. None of the devs like the 1 shot/1 combo mechanics the game has been driven into. 

    nice changes, too bad its only on the private server atm. But it'll definitely be nice to see extremely long drawn out battles that require a complete domination to actually get a kill.


    Oh and and by the way, a lot of  cities with strong medieval heritage also have Roman elements.

    Most of them were established and built by the romans first, and still organised according to a Cadro Maximus / Decumanus Maximus road network model.

    Otherwise @Xaqq is right, very right about the necessary preliminary work involved to produce good designs.

    A lot of a good concept artist worktime is spent doing researches. It's very obvious when it comes to armor or weapon designs in games (like this one for example, where the best and the worst can meet).

    Most of the artist never ever took a sword in their hands, watched an armor closely or just simply asked themselves if what they were drawing could even work. That usually leads to shitty designs. but as they are made for players as much if not more uneducated than them, everything is fine.

    There are 2 houses of concept artists people usually split up into. One is concept Designer, and the other is Visual developer.

    well this statement is still relatively debatable. For a game like BDO, research is required since it is a game stooped in a certain level of realism. But in the end good design can be dictated in terms of purely stylistic and aesthetic values, or pure practicality/plausibility values. This in the end comes down to what kind of game or movie you are making. (it all depends on whether it is realistic, cartoony, or stylized. Genre is a huge deciding factor) 

    here's an in depth break down if you're interested:

    There are basically 2 types of concept artist: Concept Designer and the Visual Development Artist

    Normally a Concept designer works mostly with hard surface designs and strictly concentrates on mechanical design aspects, hence they land jobs mostly for games and movies such as Mass Effect, TitanFall, COD, etc. (anything with scifi, mech, mechanical designs, hence why most concept designers are ex-industrial designers). They're mainly used for prop designing and costume designing of individual parts and pieces.

    The other category of concept artists, Visual Development artists, hail more towards the art, color, and mood side which concentrate on story and atmosphere of the world. They mostly work for companies like Blizzard (overwatch) and Disney/Pixar (people often erroneously call them "animation artists" which is wrong, animation artists just animate, they barely ever dictate story, color, or design, they dont draw. their main job is to purely just animate, the true creatives at disney are the Visual Development artists who often dont get the credit even though they're the ones who dictate what the characters and environments look like). These guys basically look at the whole picture versus the tiny bits and props that have to be picked out and designed.

    And Finally the last category of concept designers are what I call the in between-ers that do both. These are the masters who've transcended both and now work for Marvel Studios (the guys who make Avengers movies) and Industrial Light and Magic @LucasFilm (Star Wars team).

  12. Always felt there was a Roman feel to it. But no one ever speaks Latin. And its weird that Valencia, was the name given to the Middle Easterners in this game. Unless its a reference to Muslim Spain.

    well the architecture is 100% Mediterranean/Italian. Ancient Roman architecture is nothing like what you see in calpheon, ancient roman takes from Ancient Greece in terms of architecure with the big pillars and such.

    Calipheon - Roman Empire

    Selendia - Galia

    Barenos - the Levant

    Media - Egypt

    Valencia - Sassanid Persia

    calpheon is absolutely not Roman in any way except maybe character personalities at best. Architecture is all high Renaissance Italian. Read above post.

    It's quite evident that game developper use real life to make their games. Most people had determined it to be italian. Good job narrowing it to one city tho.

    well ye, i say that because most uninformed people assume concept artists just draw something out of thin air. We do a shitton of research and referencing things we see in real life and we combine and take aspects from here and there to come up with something "new". It's really jsut a remix process, the rest comes down to your drawing and painting skills.

As a concept artist I always like to pry and look at what other concept artists used as reference/inspiration when designing worlds. 50% of a concept artist's job is to do the research before putting pen on paper, and usually catching wind of what a concept artist used as reference is almost considered as being caught red-handed. But personally I just find this interesting and informative of other people's artistic process.

    most of Assisi was used as architectural reference, because calpheon sports a more forest environment compared to Assisi's southern Italy environment.

    Thought some of you may find this a bit of a stretch/not close enough I personally see a lot of visual design elements that were taken from Assisi and mixed with other southern/Mediterranean cities of Europe. If you look at the courtyard there are a ton of similarities.

  15. Imo I think every class should have a grab. Some not having it seems stupid. Every good fighting game gives all character this basic tool. Btw wish I could like your comment :(

    well it's really not about every class not having grapple. it's more on the idea that grapple seems like the "only" possible reliable CC out there. They need to eliminate this retarded Accuracy evasion/immunity system cuz it just destroys all sense of mechanical skill in this game and reduces it to a dumb as ----- dice roll.

    Not surprised they don't know which class needs bigger buffs. Wouldn't be surprised if they thought Musa was strong enough.

    the devs dont know balance. Musa is so shit right now i can beat a lvl 60 musa with 230 ap without using awakening skills on warrior. They dug this hole on themselves, cuz the only solution now is give everyone a -----ign grab which is also a terrible idea.

    lol dont. i quit my 58 warrior to make a ninja. Ninja is so much more fun right now than warrior. Warrior is literally pre awakening ranger spam atm. Ninja has actual creative combos that you can play around with, warrior has almost none that are impressive on a mechanical level and is literally a 1 button 1 action class.

  18. nice pre awakening changes to warrior love it. just need to nerf the greatsword skills now cuz all the bandwagonners only came to warrior for that.


    formatting via windows is literally just "hiding" all the data on your hard drive. It's all still there unless you overwrite all bits with 0s (aka "hard drive nuke"). With the last patch i've noticed that the game runs slightly better and that it gets back to normal performance a bit quicker after stuttering. 

    I analyzed the performance of the game last week. To keep it short: The game/engine fails to give your GPU work, thus resulting in bad utilization. I'd love to post everything I know in a seperate thread, but i have to do more research in order to get everything right.

    ye my fps has been nuked recently. I have no idea how or why but it's definitely not using my gpu to the maximum potential considering how i barely even hear a hum from my pc as apposed to before where it sounded like a jet engine.

    Yeah, this was in that press release everyone was fawning over a few weeks ago. Along with the Air Ships and whatnot...

    It's a nice idea, but no doubt will be poorly implemented.

    edit: if kamasilve content is any indication, i think they're trying to get better at implementing their content. either way at least they recognize the current meta is kinda bullshitty which is the first step.
