The reason for the argument isn't for it's impact on the AH... the impact is for the perceived value guilds place on the nodes that drive the PVP end game that the game was designed around.  Why would a design team for a game undermine that core feature?  That would make no sense.

BDO is a sandbox in the sense that with the framework and world-rules we're given the game is open to emergent game play.  And the backbone of the game world is GvG control over the nodes.
A single guild doing that wouldn't really be a bad thing.  But when all the guilds can do it... then the backbone of the game collapses... and THE multiplayer end game content is hugely devalued.  Devaluing the impact of the of the nodes in the manner in which you're suggesting would undermine the and likely kill the game.  If people are concerned over the sheer amount of power node taxes give to guilds then I would suggest the balance-lever to pull would be to tweak the tax rate transactions in the market place see but not to treat adding play to player trading as a balance mechanic.  That would likely kill the game.
Single players probably wouldn't go looking, but guilds could funnel goods to their players on a large scale.  If you consider that every moderately organized group would do this.... that would be a big impact.

If people go to another node then they're just increasing the value of another node that seems to be working as intended.  GvG is the primary end game of the game.  There are other things people could do end game, niches and some not so niche things they can do, but the entire game was designed around GvG to try and deny that is foolish.

I also think you're under estimating the amount of economic activity that could be moved outside the marketplace.  Guilds that operate around certain nodes that they don't happen to own could potentially move their entire internal economic activity off of the market, which in totality would be a huge amount for the whole game.  I agree that newbies trading is kind of insignificant, but there would be other consequences that would undermine core features if they were allowed to.

Taxes from the nodes go to the Guilds that control the nodes.  If people can circumvent that it undermines THE core feature of the game
Yeah but if you want to lower the benefit guilds get from the nodes just decrease the tax benefit they get... letting palyers circumvent the system doesn't do the core game design any good.

I've been thinking about this quite a bit and someone may have already mentioned this.... but the game is based largely around GvG and controlling various nodes.  By forcing all economic activity in game to funnel through the local nodes players are using the value of the nodes in GvG is increased.  As soon as you allow player to player trading there now becomes a significant "black market" economy away from the actual marketplace.  From a game design this is probably the biggest reason.  And while we talk about combating gold sellers and stuff like that... to me that's almost secondary to the impact on GvG gameplay.

Their version doesn't affect ours though.  Everyone in our version is playing against the same rules.

Saying an arbitrary tax rate is too high when it's the same across our version is silly.  If they lowered the viewable price on items... you would never know.  The only thing that will become relevant will be the controlling guild tax on top of it since it can be set by the guilds themselves and will therefore vary from city/region.

So because I deleted the bogus character you moved to Orwen.... I can't use my reserved name?

Edit:  So I guess that means I have to create a placeholder on Orwen again to use the name swap.  Lets see if this works.

I'm far from white knighting... Comparing BDO to themepark games is a lame exercise.  What games do you consider BDO in competition with?

You play this game for the Guild Open World PVP or to marvel at how gorgeous this world design is or to really enjoy the combat.  Or all three.  It's in a class of its own for the games that are all current right now.  If you want scripted raid or dungeons fights... Then this really isn't for you.

My argument applies to real world economics as well.  All products in a crowded market will be in a race to the lowest price.  Products that are unique or stand out or have a brand people want will pay a premium.  All cash shops that people compare to are from games that are all basically the same damn thing.  They largely have no option but to compete in price.
BDO's is more closely in a class of games like EVE or Archeage.  AA died a sad death(and even then it was too themeparky).  So really BDOs only really similar game is EVE.  So for people that value these kind of game features...  It's totally worth it.
So I seriously question why people are here and what they stand for when they threaten to leave over a cash shop

I don't find your comparison to other MMOS valid.  They're all shitty cookie cutter themepark copies of each other.  The world design in BDO is unmatched in any MMO and we're getting free expansions that more than double that playable space.  That's free shit.  People can pay more for optional costumes to make that possible.

This game stands apart in features and design compared to all other MMO.  We know the world is going to massively expand for free.... The cash shop prices are fair to pay when you're getting that kind of game.
