BDO and EVE

I love the graphics, combat, and open world of BDO but also love the freedom and dynamics of EVE Online. I'd pay $50/month until i die to whatever God company can create such a beast! I'd give Daum/PA my right ball if they could ever design BDO around the concepts EVE has.

Who here has played EVE Online and would be interested in a medieval backdrop with BDO quality combat and graphics?

Played EVE.

I'd pay $30 a month to play a game not EVE (and have).

Try star citizen. You can buy the  starter pack for $45.00 before the game releases.

what did you dislike about the open world and freedom of eve online?

(we're not talking about the menus upon menus that eve has because we're talking about a game with BDO's engine and interface being used with the freedom and open world pvp that eve offers)

That would be pretty darn interesting although I'm not really a big fan of EVE itself due to the complexity, I tried it once and gave up after like 30 minutes trying to figure out how to browse the menues (Feel free to call me weak :D

But I doubt we'll have anything like that for atleast another 5-10 years, so I'll just stick with BDO for now. :D

you're talking about the negatives of the game and not the positives that make the game so loved by hundreds of thousands of players around the world. Of course I'm talking about integrating the pros not the cons.

problem is noone else (read: not too many people) are willing to pay that much for pixels.

well I'm not saying it would cost $50/month. I was just saying it would be worth it to me for even such a crazy price! PA could make this happen with the income they already receive from the different regions.

Well, if you want a opinion on why someone would not like eve. I can abide your request instead as I tried it and didn't enjoy it.

To me, It just felt like a spreadsheet simulator with terrible controls, a overly complex user Interface, and with rather uninteresting combat. Personally, I found Elite Dangerous more interesting than it...and I don't like Elite Dangerous anymore for another set of reasons I won't get into.

oh yes no disagreements there. The menus upon menus in eve was horrible. Which is why I said I'd want a game that combines it with BDO and using a different interface and BDO's engine/design. I'm talking about the freedom and open world that eve offers

People lose thousands, yes, thousands of dollars in PVP in Eve.

No thanks.

That's irrelevant about the topic. The topic is its open world and freedom.

That's what BDO was supposed to be initially. An fantasy open world sandbox mmorpg. It turned into solo simulator 2016 group for node wars though, then they sprayed all the sand with water and turned it into mid that couldn't be thinned out.

ArcheAge was essentially that, just wrecked due to p2w mechanics. Had they gone b2p / subscription is probably have thousands of dollars invested and still playing AA.

Im looking at Albion now for a sandbox game, but because it's not fancy graphics it probably won't hit big.

Eve is a difficult game to get into. Too much information, distances are too huge, too many ways to stupidly die and nothing to hold your hand - you can lose everything you've got very quickly - plus it takes a significant amount of time to become anything close to relevant. It's a game where you absolutely need the right group of people to play with at the very beginning, else you will become overwhelemed/bored fast.

Once you get over all of that, Eve's a game you can never quit. A game where the majority of the population truly loves newbs (assuming said newbs are willing to learn and work at getting better). The only game where I get honest to god adrenaline rush during PvP encounters.

The one advise I give friends who want to try Eve is to get the hell out of High Sec immediately. Joining a newb corp located in Null is one way to go though there are other options. If you stick around mining/doing PvE in High Sec, chances are you're going to quit, never having discovered what makes Eve the amazing game it is.

EvE is boring, got a terrible combat system and is almost completely deserted. No game should ever try to be like EvE.

How do you port the leveling system from Eve into BDO?

You don't level processing by processing, but rather level it passively according to real time passed?

You don't level your combat rating by, well doing anything at all in BDO since (strangely) everything in BDO gives combat xp.  Instead, you choose whether you want to raise your combat level or processing level, one at a time, passively based on passage of real time?

The world in BDO would need to be way, way larger, and the penalties for PK in the core of the world way, way harsher.  Children would cry, and frankly it kinda looks like these children are the bread and butter BDO wants.

What you're suggesting is going from SWG NGE to SWG.  It's too late for that.

At this point, BDO has little option but to embrace their inner NGE, however lame that may be.  An Eve-like BDO would need to have the strength of vision we saw out of Reykjavic, and the resolve to stand by it through time.  Not gonna happen with this crew.  It's just not part of Daum's culture to operate that way.

I have to agree with that. Eve devs actually care about the longevity of their product, very much so. They understand their market and make decisions based on that understanding; and if those decisions don't yield expected results they have the integrity to admit they are wrong and do their best to fix the situation. They are also very much aware of the importance of good communication. BDO is a quick cash grab with all that it implies, and what's more, it was clearly intended to be exactly that from the beginning. There's no way it could ever hold a candle to Eve where quality is concerned, not that PA/Daum would even want to try.

I rather get ganked by lvl 60's than do Missions on EVE so that they can run a blockade, blast ur ship and take all the money you invested into the mission. Markeedragon was the best at pointing out those assholes

My hope is actually that BDO would become some sort of fantasy EVE successor a few years from now :] There are already multiple mechanics an dsigns pointing towards that possibility.

Of course people are going to ----- about EVE, particularly considering how this community treats PK like real life atrocities and whines at the slightest sign of long term progress.

EVE and the old Lineage 2 are so much better than BDO, that they even cannot be compared. BDO is a terrible MMO. There are no multiplayer mechanisms in this game, everything is solo or zerg. There is no progression of the gameplay, more you play, the game becomes easier. To like such a game with endless and pointless grind, you have to be truly addicted to the videogames. It is very simple EVE and L2 before GoD are like sex - great, full with passion and emotions, really entertaining, with lot of drama - really multiplayer games. BDO is like mastrubation, you fap alone with few millions of pathetic guys in some porno site, and you delusional think you have a great time. If you are addicted nolifer who fap in front of his computer 24/7 you may convince yourself that mastrubation is better than sex, but it is simply not.
