Balenos fishing rod +7 or steel rod?

13 posts in this topic

Hello guys!

I just couldn't find any specific data to my question. My question is:

Which fishing rod is better for short time afk fishing? The Balenos fishing rod or the steel fishing rod?

The problem is:

With the steel fishing rod I get +2 speed and +1 from costume. That makes +3. I can use a buff to get to +4 (the cheaper one) or the expensive one to hit +5.

With the Balenos rod, I get +1 from custome and +1 from buff to hit +2 or the expensive buff to hit +3.

Let's say I got a Balenos rod +7. It reduces the auto fishing time BUT I got +2 (max. +3) fishing speed. So my bite rate is lower than with the steel rod. I don't know the exact difference between +2 speed and +4 speed. I'm looking for the rod with the shorter time to get a fish: Bite time + autofish time.

Any expert who can help me please?

Balenos all the way. But im no expert tho, havent tested the difference.

You can easily test it if you time sessions and keep track of the Rod durability

Depends on how long you fish and your inventory size.

If you deplete your steel rod afking and your inventory is not yet full => go Balenos. +7 will have around 90 durability as I recall and have reduced afk fishing time too. Also, you don't need to carry around steel rods since you can just repair it.

Balenos rod increases with 5 durability per enchant on top of the decreased afk timer. So I'd go for a Balenos rod for my afk fishing. At +7 it'll have 18% saved afk fishing time + 85 durability. So for long term afk fishing, this would be more beneficial than the +2 in fishing speed. If you however just wanna afk fish for 1-2 hours, the steel rod could be useful (or if you think you'll get full inventory before you use up all the durability). Remember that the balenos rod can be repaired where-as Steel rods can not and therefore you'll have to buy a new steel rod everytime you use up one's durability.

Tl;dr, Both can work fine, but I'd personally go Balenos rod unless it's ~1 hour afk fishing.

Also get some silver fishing clothes to +1 or at least +2 is "pretty" easy.  I have +3 and it gives me fishing +2.

Use the steel rod until you can get an alchemy life stone that gives fishing speed rank (blue or better quality) and a +2 or higher silver costume.  You should be able to get +5 easily with that, then you should switch to balenos.

yes, this.

I only recently discovered the durability consumption decrease from branding, it's essential if you want to fish for relics or money

I certainly agree with the branding.  I have 192 inventory slots and with my branded pole I can fill every slot and still have some durability remaining.  I also branded my float (maple float I think).  Just remember that they are bound to the character if you brand them.
