alchemy Alchemy stone polishing fails?

Yo o/

I've made my first couple of alchemy stones lately, and like any other somewhat sane person, I'd like to polish and grow them. I know alchemy stones of destruction need ores / gems to be grown, but I've had no luck. Once I insert the stone in the menu and I have all of my different ores and gems in my inventory, I can't click them. Anyone know of the solution?

(My alchemy lvl is professional 4)

Thanks in advance :)

You can only grow them with the following:

Life stone: special plants (the blue ones)

Protection stone: sturdy plywood

Destruction stone: pure metal crystals

They changed it some patches ago. Now you need Pure crystals for destruction stones. Sturdy plywood for the def one and Special crops for the life one.

All other things don't work anymore

A follow up question:  Does anyone know at which point when attempting to upgrade the stone it can downgrade and/or be destroyed on failure?  I have a blue Sturdy Alch stone of Destruction and would like to get it to Sharp / Yellow.   I have the pure crystals to get from zero to 100% exp but only once without going to the market and I would prefer not to spend 15 or 30 mil in Exp mats and then blow it up.

Thanks for any advice, fairly new to upgrading them so any tips would be much appreciated.

going from 6 AP to 8 AP (sturdy to sharp) should be the first time when it can downgrade.

i failed twice going 6 AP -> 8 AP and both times it downgraded (not sure if 100% chance). It took between 5 and 10 attempts to get it back to 6 AP each time but i never downgraded when going from 4 to 6 AP

Can a failed upgrade actually reduce the tier of the stone, ie  Yellow back to Blue or Blue back to Green, or is that part at least locked in?
