As an avid roleplayer, I am interested in how many are out there and what region you belong to. I have also become increasingly concerned that the lion's share of RP might be happening in NA. Please take part in the poll, post your thoughts and encourage others to do the same.

Thanks

I'll be going EU.

Typically the NA roleplay community tends to be larger than an EU one in every game - there are just more Americans (or rather, EU is often divided by language more) -  but I think the EU roleplay for BDO will be relatively active regardless, so don't be disheartened. Quantity doesn't mean quality and ultimately you're more likely to make new EU roleplaying contacts in game.

So yes, I'll be going EU myself, as I said, and I know plenty of other roleplayers who will as well. If it's possible to play on both then I might hop over to NA for roleplay (the ping is not great for gameplay with the NA server being on the west coast) sometimes, but being 6-9 hours ahead of NA peak times makes attending events (both roleplay ones and gameplay castle sieges etc.) difficult unless I don't want to sleep... and I usually want to sleep. I have a life I need to lead and stuff.

While we're still much smaller than NA, an EU community is starting to form over on blackdesertroleplayers.com. I'd like to encourage everyone to check it out, especially EU people who are serious about building an EU community. The more the merrier!

Edit: I've made a connections thread over here too:

Awesome stuff said by Faine that makes a lot of sense.

Pretty much that for me as well. I will be on EU doing my bit to provide to the community there. :)

Ironically, it was actually the NA-heavy guild listings at  blackdesertroleplayers.com that got me concerned. But I have had nothing but good experiences with EU roleplay, over the years and I do hope that the EU community is strong.

I know the feeling. This is a big disadvantage with forums for EU-English players - NA always looks like it has more going on, which it does over all, but only for people in the NA timezones (or those who don't mind only playing at weekends or sleeping weird hours). It can be disheartening at best and a point of division at worst, but it happens every time a new game comes along with split regions.

In any case, rest assured that a lot of us will be working together for an EU-English community. We'll always be smaller, but that doesn't mean we're not active. Give it some time and more listings will come. At the moment people are still figuring out what the game is all about but it's all starting to pick up now.

I'll be on the EU side. While there is a certain allure in going to NA for a larger community, there are too many downsides paired with it -- especially if you intend to actually play the game as well. The different timezones and high ping are a big deal to me. I'd hardly ever be able to attend NA events or interact with most of the NA community anyway due to the different timezones. It's too much hassle to schedule my life around these things for little reward and on top of that, my gameplay experience would be diminished; sieges in the middle of the night I'll never be able to attend for example.

I'd like to roleplay and enjoy the game to the fullest hence I'm going EU. I'm positive there'll be a respectable EU community, especially when we already have a bunch of motivated people being part of it.

This has always been a conundrum due to the fact I'm NA-side, but I'm a shift-worker. Sometimes I'll play EU-side, sometimes NA-side. If I'm given the opportunity to play both, I definitely will. The only thing that leans me toward playing NA-side, even if I can't make guild / server events except on my days off, is that NAers tend to play around the clock, where I find it difficult to find EUers to play with around the clock. I'm not sure if that's because NAers tend to work around the clock with 24-hr businesses for the most part, but there's always that gap after my time midnight where I hardly run into people to play with on the EU-side. On the other flip side of the coin, I find quality of RP to be better EU-side, so I always end up torn when starting a game fresh where to start.
