Ninja Awakening Combos & Tips

So I want to create some more combo opportunities for ninja similar to the ones kobitz has made but for awakening. This one is going to focus on short combos, and long combos both. This guide is made to be used in conjunction with the Kobitz 'Ninja Combo Theory Crafting' guide (yo thanks kobitz for letting me use this!)

 

 

USE THIS VIDEO AS A REFERENCE TO THIS GUIDE!!!! This video is to be used in tandem with this guide, use youtube's built in slo-mo effect for parts that may be too fast for you. 

 

PVP combos:

These combos will focus on having the enemy CC'd for the duration of the combo, rather than pure dps. These are not the end all be all combos, just ones I've come up with myself that seem to be working for my playstyle. If you've got tested combos to submit I will gladly add them up to the rest!

In awakened stance:

  • Shift+LMB -> Shift+RMB-> S+F This combo does excellent damage, the double cast (from transitioning stance) on serpent helps add a ton of dps, however is hard to land effectively
  • F -> S+F ->  Shift+F High damage, quick burst if grab is on cooldown
  • F -> S+F -> E -> Shift+RMB fully-charged -> Shift+F if grab is off cooldown
  • Shift+Q -> Shift+RMB (with BSR 100%) -> Shift+F  Only if you have enough black spirit rage built up
  • Shift+LMB -> Spacebar -> Hold RMB (for execution) -> E -> (S+F -> Shift+F)or(Shift-RMB fully-charge) Mainly if serpent/katanashower are on CD but you have an opportunity to DPS
  • Transitioning stance - Shift+W -> instantly Shift+LMB -> S+F ->Shift+ F

In Short-sword stance:

When I say cc, I mean any kind of opener cc from bladespinblade/malice/beheading the dead/black moonlight/shadow stomp/starflight.

When I say filler damage, I mean any strong hitting moves in Short-sword that can be cast quickly between cc's, such as fox clow/shadow clone/blade spin blade/fatal blow

(S) Indicates the key-combo is for shortsword. (A) indicates key-combo is for awakening

  • (S)cc -> (S)filler damage -> (S)E -> (S) Shift+LMB -> C+S/A/D -> (A)E -> (A)S+F -> (A)Shift+F  if grabs are off cooldown
  • (S)cc -> (S)Shift+LMB -> C+S/A/D -> (A)F -> (A)S+F -> (A)Shift+F if grabs are on cooldown

 

Main PvE rotation

This is the rotation I usually do quickly clear large packs of mobs. Start in Short-sword. Shadowslash around the mobs I intend to kill to group them up and regen any lost WP, swap to awakening with S+C, S+LMB -> S+RMB -> S+F -> Shift+F (they are usually all dead at this point) -> spacebar alternating LMB and RMB to regenerate WP and let cooldowns come up and repeat from the beginning. Insert Asura Chaospree wherever you need to regenerate HP. I usually will stay in awakening form to farm and just use ninja step + ghost step + murderous intent for movement and only swap to shortsword if the mob packs are extra far apart or I need to group the mobs together cause the actual mob spread is large. 

 

Tips & Tricks

Special shoutout to mtl for most of these tips, u da real mvp.

  • Shift+LMB -> Shift+RMB will not consume 100% BSR (but this combo will make drastic measure have uncharged damage)
  • You can re-position with a charged drastic measure with Shift+W/S (Hold down RMB until you're ready to release the attack)
  • Smokescreen/bladespinblade/ninjachase can be hotbar'd to quickly swap from awakening to shortsword
  • Serpent Ascension will float after people are on the ground from a grab
  • Shift+ A/D -> RMB will grant superarmor and frontal block, mixed with Shift+ W/S to go forward/backward. This is super armor/ frontal guard. 100% of the time
  • Alternating LMB+RMB while doing seamless will alternate between corrupt sword dance and sudden decaptiation, holding RMB to end will also do Flow:Execution
  • Q block will lock you into animation while taking hits unless you use LMB to break the animation and do a counter
  • Murderous intent in transition stance is consuming a lot of durability for some reason, use sparingly
  • C after ghost greeting/ghost step is a quick way to swap to awakening while trying to gap close
  • Rebind C to Middle mouse button if you can stand to lose it as a camera position-er, this allows for more seamless transitions and less accidental v's
  • You can go right into Seamless following the Side Step you do after Ghost Step without throwing out an attack. Just make sure you aren't holding down a A,S,D, or W
  • You can do a double side slide if you ghost step left/right and then dont hold the button down to slide. You have until the end if ghost step cooldown, but you can do a slide -> ghost step -> slide
  • If you spam A/D while holding shift in awakening form, you will do a smooth endless strafe of dodges. Good for mobility, unsure if it has full i-frame/superarmor
  • You cannot use double jump in awakening form unless you press tab to stow weapons
  • Bonus tip: style is everything, let your sheathing animations play out for extra style-points

Awakened Ninja Moves Sorted by CC type :  

Stiffness : 

  • Vengeful Barrier (Q+LMB)Down Attack 

  • Murderous Intent (Shift+LMB) Down Attack Forward Guard while moving 

  • Flow: Doppel Dummy (Shift+Q) 

Stun : 

  • Sura ChaoSpree (S+E Forward Guard while drawing/sheathing 

  • Asura (Shift+E Super armor while using skill 

Knockdown : 

  • Vacuum Slash (F) Air Attack Forward Guard on first slashes, Float if 1st hit lands, knockdown if 4th lands

  • Flow: Execution (After strong attack RMBAir Attack Down Attack 

Bound : 

  • Seamless (SpaceDown Attack Forward Guard on first slash 

  • Sudden Decapitation  (S+RMB) Down Attack Bound on in transition form, launch in dual sword form

  • Mach Explosion (RMB after Strong slash) Down Attack Stiffness on down slash/Bound on aerial 

  • Drastic Measure (Shift+RMB) Down Attack If successful energy gathering and hit, inflict stun 

Float : 

  • Bloodthirst: Katana Shower (Shift+FAir Attack Down Attack Float on upward slash

  • Serpent Ascension (S+F) Down Attack  

  • Vacuum Slash (F) Air Attack Forward Guard on first slashes, Float if 1st hit lands, knockdown if 4th lands

Grab: 

  • Flash Bondage (E) Bound if two consecutive hits, superarmor/iframe 

 

Working on making some flexible combos for Ninja. Should theoretically be able to rotate infinitely with CC and damage while always having something off CD to use for the desired effect. Still WIP. Input is appreciated. Still testing and theory crafting.

CC lockout breakdown thanks to @Zephen :

  • Freeze : Locks ALL CC for a few seconds after it's used.
  • Stiffness : Only locks further Stiffness
  • Stun : Locks Stun and Knockdown
  • Knockdown : Locks Knockdown and Stun
  • Bound : Locks Bound and Float
  • Float : Locks Float and Bound
  • Grab Locks everything but other grabs (thanks`AckwardNinja)

  • Throwing Kick(F) Air Attack

Grab:

  • Suicide Fall (E) Used midair allows triple/quad jump

Note: Shadow Clone (Hotkey or Spacebar after Shadow Stomp) Air Attack Air Smash Down Attack Down Smash

I left out a few abilities that don't see much use. If you disagree let me know and we'll see about fitting them in somehow. Moves are somewhat in order of priority. Moves towards the beginning are faster or easier to land and should be used early in a combo to set up said combo. Moves towards the end of each respective category should be used later in combos, or not at all. Moves towards the end also tend to do more damage and thus serve well as finishers, best used after suicide fall. Note: kicks are put at the end of their respective lists because they are generally inferior to other choices. They can still serve as fillers, though.

Been doing a lot of testing, updating combo to reflect information gathered.

Flexible Combo so far :

  1. Malice/Block Jump/Ghost Greeting (Can use any of these to open up. Can use multiple if needed for gap close)
  2. Beheading The Dead or Shadow Slash Optional -> Smokescreen -> Concealment -> Heart Aiming
  3. Ankle Cutter/Boss Slaughter Back or Forward/Crescent Slash
  4. Fox Claw Optional x2
  5. Flight/Star Throw/Floor Sweeping Suggested -> Shadow Stomp
  6. Fatal Blow Optional
  7. Suicide Fall
  8. Fox Claw Optional x2
  9. Shadow Clone (Can be used from your hotbar for ~5sec after casting Shadow Stomp or Ground Thrust)
  10. Blade Spin Blade
  11. Beheading The Dead Optional

So in summary, you want to open by landing some sort of StiffnessMaliceBlock Jump, and Ghost Greeting all do this well, although Ghost Greeting and Block Jump take some practice to get use to. Once you confirm it's landed, you have two options for extending the standing CC with a Stun. Either Beheading The Dead if you are further away because you used Malice for Stiffness, or Shadow Slash Smokescreen Stealth combo followed by Heart Aiming if you got the Stiffness from Block Jump or Ghost Greeting. If they are further away, the Stun should give you enough time to close the gap for you to use one of your stronger CC's. Now we have two choices. We have the ground combo Ankle CutterFox Claw if the Bound lands, Floor Sweeping for the Down SmashShadow Stomp. Or we have the air combo, Crescent SlashFlightShadow Stomp. You can actually completely skip Crescent Slash in the air combo, as Flight is both a Float and an Air Smash. The air combo seems to land more consistently as people's resists for Float tend to be lower and Flight hits many more times than any of our Bound options. Now your opponent should be on the ground and completely locked out from any CC except Grab. You should be able to sneak in some extra damage quickly here. Fatal Blow and Fox Claw both do the trick. Blade Spin Blade CAN work and SOMETIMES extends the CC with a Down Smash, but usually they are locked out from being further smashed at this point and the length of the attack will allow them time to get up. Finish off your combo by Grabbing them as they are trying to stand up and pumping a little extra damage on their downed body with Shadow Clone or Blade Spin Blade or Beheading The Dead or Fox Claw x2. If they aren't dead at this point, consider retreating to safety until you successfully land a Stiffness again.

I haven't seen this one mentioned anywhere ,but you can go right into Seamless following the Side Step you do after Ghost Step without throwing out an attack. Just make sure you aren't holding down a A,S,D, or W. Saves some time since our basic slashes are pretty slow.

So you mentioned being able to do Slide -> Ghost Step -> Slide if you just hold your slide a bit ,but something else I've discovered is that if I just spam Shift + A or D over and over I'll do Double Slides into Ghost Step for a super quick strafe. Not sure whats happening here and haven't found an easier way to do it other than just spamming the shit out of Shift + A or D ,but I'd like others to try this to see what they can find out. 

Ok scratch that figured it out... If you just hold shift and spam A or D depending on your direction you will actually slide twice in between Ghost Steps creating a seamless movement with zero pause. Pretty sick.

Do you think the slide has some sort of immunity or it's just like Ninja Evasion without any sort of superarmor or invincibility?

Nice, this sounds sick, I've got to try this out. Sliding is one of my favorite ways to juke people out. Also good to note is you can ghoststep left and then slide right & vice versa. Good for juking and throwing people off your attack pattern. 

You can even Slide left then Slide right with the double slide.

Imo another good short combo is: Transitioning stance - shift+W - istantly shift+LMB - S+F and then shift+ F. You even get the S+F doublecast without having to use Drastic measure + the transitioning stance shift+w with murderous intent looks extremely fast.

I usually will stay in awakening form to farm and just use ninja step + ghost step + murderous intent for movement and only swap to shortsword if the mob packs are extra far apart or I need to group the mobs together cause the actual mob spread is large. 

 

 

 

 

That is great, did you guys recomend any add-on at awakening for HP recover? Kayana shower didnt recover as mutch HP like Kunoi version... i could get near full life with the Kunoi spin skill, but as ninja that +40HP didnt look be working (Kunoi is +50hp).

Vengefull Barrier and Decapitation can get awakned for +HP but im not sure if theywill ork as a spamable regen skill

And did some one think the Ninja can farm faster as a kunoi? the AOEs look be small, but the damage looks be high, and there is 3 hard hiting skills

Imo another good short combo is: Transitioning stance - shift+W - istantly shift+LMB - S+F and then shift+ F. You even get the S+F doublecast without having to use Drastic measure + the transitioning stance shift+w with murderous intent looks extremely fast.

Nice will add this as a gapclose+quick dmg

So you mentioned being able to do Slide -> Ghost Step -> Slide if you just hold your slide a bit ,but something else I've discovered is that if I just spam Shift + A or D over and over I'll do Double Slides into Ghost Step for a super quick strafe. Not sure whats happening here and haven't found an easier way to do it other than just spamming the shit out of Shift + A or D ,but I'd like others to try this to see what they can find out. 

Ok scratch that figured it out... If you just hold shift and spam A or D depending on your direction you will actually slide twice in between Ghost Steps creating a seamless movement with zero pause. Pretty sick.

Added this to the tips section. 

You can even Slide left then Slide right with the double slide.

If you need more sustain than just katana shower, use asura chaospree. If you're not lvl 59 yes, pick up the add-on for shadow slash that gives hp on hit.

Basically each type of cc will effect your further cc's. For example if you freeze someone, they are on cc lockout for 4 seconds against all types of cc. Another example would be move1 has stun, but move 2 has knockdown, but because stun locks out stun/knockdown for 4 seconds, the knockdown won't go through as a cc. Instead of move2, someone should use move3 which would be a float/grab etc. 

The general Idea is to do a stiffness into a stun/knockdown into a bound/float into a grab and go from there.

One opening/continuation for comboing I've been messing around with is: Smokescreen->Shadow Stomp->C

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Smokescreen is the only ability that both cancels Shadow Stomp and is usable in Awakening stance. If so, it's the fastest way for us to pull off Shadow Stomp from Awakening stance, and Shadow Stomp can then cancel back into Awakening stance quickly after to continue a combo.

Don't you think that SE from transitioning position is not such a blessing as people think? Have you checked the dmg output for this double cast? It's slightly any difference and you cast the skill longer. Instead of second cast you could actually hit space for starting seamless which has front guard. It's about like 0.3s but when enemy is on the ground it can make a difference (for example ranger standing up with stun).

I stopped playing BDO for a little while and now I'm back. I remember playing Ninja and I had an ability after jump to increase movement speed for a short time. Can someone remind me how to do that please and ty! Also thanks for this thread its helping remember how to play my class!

  • Q block will lock you into animation unless you use LMB to break the animation and do a counter

     

if you use q as block, you just can use Shift+a/d do slide. this will insta cancel the blocking form.
