Hey guys i was just looking for some suggestions as to how I could upgrade my pc to better suite black desert. I run 45-55 fps on medium settings and am looking to get that to a solid 60 or above.  Right now im running a Intel I5-3450 @ 3.10 GHZ, 8 GB of ram, and a GTX 950. I'm thinking the CPU will need it so let me know what you think, any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!

Download HWMonitor and see what the utilisation of your gpu and cpu is while running the game in the settings you want. That will tell you where you need to upgrade.

At first glance, definitely can use some more RAM.

Since the holidays are here I would suggest seeing if you can get a good deal on some 16GB DDR4 RAM. It should last you for a while with the games that may come out in the future.

Other than that, I second Sandpit's suggestion

OP, I'm running the game with similar framerates but on the highest quality settings at 1080p. I don't have the Increased Distance box checked (it eats up about 15 frames) or the one for all the experimental pretties (which eats up ALL THE FRAMES).

This is with an i3-6100 @ 3.7ghz, GTX 1050Ti, and 16gb of RAM. I'm also using an M.2 SSD, although I don't know how much that might factor in to performance for BDO. So as you can see, except for the SSD, these aren't fancy or high dollar components. This whole rig only cost $600 to put together, and could have cost $100 less if I hadn't wanted a few specific things.

BDO doesn't seem very CPU intensive, certainly not compared to a game like Battlefield 1 that can push even high-end chips to 70% or higher usage. I'd say that the 2gb of memory on your GPU is probably the main issue. A card with 4gb might make all the difference. Ultimately though, Sandpits' recommendation to monitor the game's resource usage is sound. Especially if you're looking to do as minimal of an upgrade as possible to hit the performance that you want.

Regarding the video settings for the game, I've experimented with them a lot. The biggest issue is that due to the limited setting options there's not a lot of fine tuning that you can do to massage your framerate. The only option with any significant framerate loss/gain (other than that experimental option) is for Increased Distance. Graphics and Texture settings have to be turned to Medium or lower to realize any significant framerate gain, and even then it's pretty minimal for a huge hit in quality. The game just isn't optimized particularly well and even brute force with powerful components will only go so far.

Due i dont know what your buget is but those are my specs:

GTX1080

CPU i7 -4930k

64 gb ram

Monitor up to WQHD (2560 x 1440)

Game settings:

res 2560 x 1440

Everything on max including high end mode -> 40 (in towns) 55(outside of town)  with FPS fluksing +/- 15 FPS at times.

Bosses 25 around with other effects hidden.

Best part is when checking wheere my botle neck is i can not find it ... GPU is not even in above avera load ... my CPU is on 20-30% ram (its ower kill for this game i know).

I can watch other shit on my dual monitor without problem, i even dual box Tera online sometimes everything runs smoothly except BDO.

Idk ... more and more i think instead of releasing new content they should focus everything they have on optimizing core engine of this game. 60fps is pretty much standard these days.

Probably the first thing you should do is upgrade that GTX 950 to a GTX 1080.

gtx1080 extreme amp here and i7-3770k @3.5ghz

i went from 45/50fps in town to 98fps all maxed (except high-end mode) overclocking the cpu @4.2ghz

so we can state that bdo is cpu intensive.

If you are changing your rig completly go for the be-a-st cpu: cpu is "forever" and you could upgrade your gpu accordingly later during years in anycases

As ever in these threads people like to spend other people's money. Before any sensible advice can be given it would be useful to know the kind of budget OP is looking at. He may not have £1000 available for this.
