Hot spot etiquette?

13 posts in this topic

Im kind of new when it comes to fishing. In the weeks before the hollidays I have fishing a try. What I did was actively searching for the mobile sea gull hot spot outside Epheria.

I spotted one just outside Epheria but it was occupied by one player already. By the looks of it the player was afk and no response to my "ahoy there"

So I thought it was ok to drop anchor there pulled out my fishing rod. After 10 minutes or so the player speaks up of howrude I am takeing his spot. He promptly weighs his anchor and is on his way, the hot spot is depleted by this time, and whispers back a litany of bad words.

So my question is: are there any unwritten rules when it comes to fishing I should be aware of?

I do realize I was intruding on my fellow fisher's domain, but all sign was pointing towards him/her being afk. Its no excuse but an explanation.

Fellow fishers, fire away!

"Fishing spot taken!" :D

The player claim every spot they see. So it is not a surprise that also fishing spots or gathering spots are seen as their own spot. Sad but true. :S

Hehe. Thanks all for the replies.

Most fishers I encounter are quite social and chatty. No problems shareing spot.

Guess I met a weirdo ^.^

this is hilarious

having more than one fisher at a hotspot doesn't deplete its resources; hotspots are time-based, not from number of fish catches

(assuming the amount of fishers doesn't change abundance)

Talking about two people casting at the same spot.

Today we had two people in the one boat who were in a party as we had been chasing a whale. One located (physically) in the US and one in Australia. I saw a hotspot, caught specific gold fish and he caught a variety of blue, gold and green casting at the exact same spot. Said he didn't see any jumping fish or seagulls. Any idea why?

According to a guide I read at least, this should be due to the respective fishing levels of the people. Higher fishing levels can see and make use of more hot spots.

As for fishing encounters, today I pulled up to a seagull spot that had someone there (my first time doing so). They immediately weighed anchor and scooted out of there, leaving me in sole possession of the spot that was still perfectly good. Of course they could have pulled away for any reason, but it sure seemed like they were fleeing some imagined attack.

It's interesting how the game favours those with the higher stats.

I hope you caught lots of fish and made good money.

Could be:
Fishing level
Fishing rod
1cm apart could make difference between "in hotspot" and "out of hotspot" (if fished at the border of the spot)
Hotspots client-based (after seeing Captcha was once client-based, everything is possible)

Thats not interesting at all,  you want nothing when your fishing lvl increases?  I don't understand your post.
