account security Black Desert.

I play the game since release. I have invested a lot of play time and money and I would hate to lose him.

To start the game enough to know the username and password. Why there are no other security such as a server KR/RU, i.e. PIN?

Do you think that security is enough?

the amount of account security in bdo from a user perspective at least looks rather low. That being said, i have never heard of anyone actually having trouble with his account security in this game, which to me is very surprising. All the other games i have played before always had issues with account security even though they put in place alot more things than just username+password.

So even though it might not look like it, i guess it is enough?
I'd still gladly take two-step authentication if they were to implement it.

Why would u even hear that someone had trouble? If someone had trouble by getting hacked or smth, he wouldnt post it here on forum, instead he would contact the support.

I think the security level is low too. A pin at login would be really nice.

2-Factor Authentication should be a must where games allow you to use real money for in-game items.

Absolutely. It baffles me that this isn't a thing yet. It should be simple to implement as well...

2-Factor should already be a standard for games like this one.

edit: google tr.

BDO KR has a 6 digit pin required to log in, much like other Korean mmos, No idea why we dont have it.
Well we also dont have the
Black Spirit Illusion http://bddatabase.net/us/skill/90/ skill on our skill tree. everything else is much the same more or less except content wise.

While I do prefer having 2-factor and would use it if it was available, when I play a game that does not have one I increase my standards for password. These are the general rules I set for myself, and I have *never* had an account compromised:

  • Password should be a minimum of 12 characters in length. Most of mine are 14
  • Password must contain upper, lower, numbers, and special characters.
  • No correctly spelled words or identifying information used (like social security or birthdate).
  • Never, ever, ever reuse the password for something else.

I usually pad password length with leading/following characters, such as ,,,password... and tend to make the password something I can memorize phonetically, but always with misspellings and special characters. Just a random example: ***IluVth!5g@me!!! - memorized as "i luv this game" with muscle memory for the capitalizations and special characters.

There are plenty of ways to keep your password saved somewhere in case you forget it. I don't have proof of this, but IMO the majority of password breaches are caused when players use the same password on a gold buying site (IGXE or whatever) as they do for their video game account.

I agree security is not enough. Its a seriously poor play on the BDO team to not bother reprimanding that guy who got hacked and perm-banned. Really shines a light on a critical double-standard. The game security should be enhanced.

your reddit post hasn't gone as planned, OP

https://www.reddit.com/r/blackdesertonline/comments/5nptda/i_got_permabanned_for_getting_hacked/dcdt1cq/

It is likely bullshit. I'm reposting my top level comment here for visibility:

As an IT guy who cleans up infections for a living your story sounds like complete bullshit so I did 5 seconds of Google research.

You're using a very unique name. A name which also appears on a blacklist of Diablo III scammers.

Your username is also referenced several times on "hackforums.net" content cached by Google Images where someone is claiming to have been scammed while trying to buy a Diable III account. I'm not going to link those because they include personal information from Paypal screenshots.

Given your username is attached to a reported history of scamming people and several GMs and customers service agents reviewed the case and upheld the ban, I think you're completely full of shit. Which is usually the way these posts end up.

EDIT: ----- it. Kids are home sick and I'm doing nothing in particular while watching them today so I made a hackforums.net account for further research.

You can see based on the quote in this screenshot that at some point you changed your name on hackforums from hwendrish to Pentroxer. Here you are in another thread explaining that you steal Steam accounts using a RAT.

----- you.

Regardless, BDO's security is still not up to standard.

Undoubtedly!

I contacted support in response to the reddit thread linked asking about two-factor authentication and their response was positive and fairly clear to me:

Thank you for contacting the Black Desert Online Customer Support and your interest in the game.

We are indeed planning to implement two-step security fairly soon. It's a work in progress but it should already be better than the current system.

So there you have it.

Of course you don't have to trust me so I just hope they'll come forward with it soon.

Ok guys, calm down.

The only thing I care about is the safety of my BDO account. Absolutely do not care about the affair ban.

Just my point is that there was a discussion on this topic. That is all.

Yes, this should  have been a priority since the beginning.

2-step auth.

PIN on login.

PIN on banks. I mean, even Runescape has it...

That's my post, but just for reference I don't think the OP of this thread is the OP of that thread. I'm assuming that a perma-ban includes a forum ban.

OP of the reddit thread made a new account and posted here: http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/127111-i-got-perma-banned-for-getting-hacked-customer-support/
