energy Channel Chat Increasingly Uses More Energy

As I am usually against the idea of punishing/restricting people who don't abuse certain things, but I'm thinking that this may have a positive trade off for all players. If each time a person types in channel chat the energy consumed is increased it will cut down on a lot of chat talk (both good and bad). Obviously this is an mmo and player to player activity is high priority to keep this game alive so i don't see this idea being endorsed by anyone (not even myself), but it is just an idea thrown out.

This idea is strictly for channel chat not area or any other. So I think channel chat will become primarily used for questions with replies being whispered back and area chat being used similarly as well as becoming spammed with nonsense. High trafficked areas will become the new channel chat (a little more realistic) with things being spammed in one area chat not effecting all other channels.

*****

Example:

If energy consumption was doubled each time (1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256)

If channel chat is used by 1 person 3 times it will cost them 1+2+4=7 energy.  Manageable.

If channel chat is used by 1 person 5 times it will cost them  1+2+4+8+16=31. Manageable.

If channel chat is used by 1 person 8 times it will cost them 1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128=255. Off putting.

*****

The Channel chat will have to have a cool down between uses to reset the multiplier. Hourly reset could reduce spam and not negatively effect players.

Someone who is new to the game and has around 30 energy total will only be able to use chat 4 times costing 15 energy as the 5th time would cost 16 energy which is greater than the the energy left.

Someone who has played and attained higher energy say 250 will only be able to use chat a maximum of 7 times costing a total of 127 energy leaving 250-127=123 energy and the 8th use costing 128.

No.  Honestly this is a terrible idea.  If people want to talk in chat, let them.  Don't punish them for it.  Theres a reason why we have the block system in chat.  If you don't like what you're seeing, block them.  If theres certain words you don't want to see, use the chat filter.  Don't know why people suggest things that they themselves don't even support.

So.... you wanna restrict people chatting in a chat channel designed for people to chat in....

if you have no faith it this idea being endorsed, why bother posting it?

Can you see how both of these statement sound a bit silly?

In reply to both NoMercy and ChoeChoeTrain I do think this idea is interesting though as I said I don't really know if I really endorse it as I've always hated restricting everyone else because of few. But in this case channel chat isn't for people to chat in anymore and the spam isn't few. I thought of this idea after seeing some new player asking a legit question about the game trying to learn/have fun and in return the dude got spammed trash replies about how noob he was etc. then those few comments were buried in a wave of other spammed nonsense.

Filters though great (truly) still don't help in these frequent situations as 'alienware' 'trump' '<' '>' 'ALT-Codes' 'Black Pink' '.com' ',com' 'c o m' ''www' etc. still do not disrupt the flow of spamming the chat.

If you reply please don't just repeat part of one line from the first 2 sentences of the original post and mock it please apply some thought as its easy to see when none is given.

Cant tell if you're ignorant or not channel chat should be free to use the fact that it takes up energy now is even stupid if you don't like the way someone is talking block them. I've never seen a system like this in which it costs you to talk freely to the rest of the player base and frankly I hope I never see it again ESPECIALLY when energy is a precious resource.

I see where you're coming from but unfortunately all mmo's will have morons like that.  But I honestly believe that the majority of the BDO community aren't a**hats and won't respond to a new player's question like that.  He/she probably got some honest whispers hopefully :)

Hopefully. I try to ask chat questions sometimes myself when I get tired of researching google and want a quick answer and half the time it is a chore getting a straight/reliable answer. Other days I just close Channel chat.

I could see this turning out to be bad on all fronts.  Players would first find their energy running out, and having to choose to either socialize or conserve energy for tasks in game.  Where I don't really socialize much, it wouldn't be that much of an issue for me, but for others this would start to snowball.  Eventually leading them to feel over-restricted and pushed to start buying energy-tonics or Blessing of Kamasylve with loyalty-points... which is not exactly what I'd want to waste my hard-earned loyalty on to be honest.

And when a game starts moving to being that restrictive from originally having been more free and open, history has shown us that most players will flock to other games where they feel more comfortable, thus hitting the player-base pretty hard.  Been plenty of other f2p and p2p titles that have implied new restrictions after the fact where it didn't bode so well for continuity of customers/players.

I agree this could very well be terrible to add to the game.

I spend most of my game time gathering so for others that do this it would effect them more than most.

But like I say this could be altered (by those smarter than me) to not be restrictive at all for players and only effect those that spam. The hourly reset (cost resets to start at 1 energy) could be 5-10 minutes or lower; or by length of the message
