A bug with marketplace search can have major performance impact

27 posts in this topic

I've had this problem for a long while where the game will start to randomly stutter at seemingly random, and I finally figured out why. I found a couple of posts talking about the same problem, and it seems like this problem has existed for at least one month:
http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/126199-stuttering-issue-100-reproduceable
https://www.reddit.com/r/blackdesertonline/comments/5lr8dk/strange_solution_for_low_fps_and_stuttering/

The cause is the marketplace search function. Search for anything without choosing a specific category, and the game will start to stutter. The average framerate won't take a huge hit, but random frame times will be extremely high resulting in random stuttering. The stuttering disappears if you re-open marketplace window and click on the text field without searching for anything.

Here's a quick example of it happening: (the stuttering is much more apparent during general gameplay)

I tried this is on two different PCs and I'm able to re-produce the same bug on both PCs. I tried it in the Korean version, and I wasn't able to re-produce it there. I'm not sure if that means they already fixed it and we'll eventually get the same bug fix, or if the bug is specific to the EN version. Considering we've had the bug a long time, I'm inclined to think the latter.

Can other people confirm they have the same issue? I wonder how widespread this issue is.

If people want a work around, then remember to always select a specific category when searching for something in the marketplace, or re-open marketplace window and click once on search text field without clicking on "Search".

I have had this exact same issue.i kinda "fix it"by opening the "view my items"  market window and closing it right there.its a wierd it feels like when you do a lenghty search on windows with low memory it stutters and struggles to search

I'm experiencing the exact same thing... I got rid of the lag by opening the map, clicking the marketplace window from there and closing it.

Look up Coherent UI in processes. It's the same for the black spirit adventure

I don't think this is related to Coherent UI. I forcefully closed Coherent UI processes, and the stuttering bug behaviour did not change.

There's two Coherent UI processes taking up 20~30% of my CPU after I use the marketplace. Using /reloadui usually fixes it. You can also kill the processes manually.

Just tested again. I forcefully close all coherent UI processes, do a search in marketplace, and I don't even see any coherent UI process running afterwards. Maybe coherent UI is related to some other performance issue, but it doesn't seem related to the marketplace bug.

The Stuttering is part of a Mem leak that occurs after the Coherent dysfunction sets in.   ...either way.....

You should probably give YouTube viewers a heads up about this because it COULD cause some of them to burn up their CPUs if they let it go on too long:

That said, we DID get a GM reply about it:   http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/121214-coherent-ui-eats-cpu/&do=findComment&comment=1753354

Marketplace is not related to Coherent UI, although that one bugs too and causes performance issues too. Probably because of the latest iteration of the Black Spirit game. Never cared to test if that's the functionality that goes down after I close the hogging process.

All you have to do to fix this one though is open the marketplace through the map and close it back down.

This has been known for a while now. And while reporting the Coherent UI bug, I also threw the marketplace one in there as a reply afterwards, but judging by the answer I got, he didn't even bother actually reading the marketplace one, lmao.

Always appreciate the attention to detail in these reports @FluffyQuack, I'll make sure this gets pushed on over along with a few other UI bugs. For the Coherent UI guys who stopped by, I am aware and have already included that in a previous report to the developers. Soon as I have anything to pass along to you about it we'll be sure to do so.

KR had optimization patches??? Oh god, there is hope for us after all. Hopefully it fixes the 32 fps bug

That's. . . Hilarious to say the least, looks like there's something preventing the marketplace search thread from closing when exiting it using the method you provided., thus causing it to infinitely loop.

So far this has fixed the issues I've been having with stuttering. I noticed a big difference after performing the fix. I really hope this takes care of it for good... I have the CoherentUI issue as well and it improves the stuttering some, but did not get 100% better.

pro tip: you dont have to open it again and close it. Everytime you search for something, you can click "list" on the left. This will kill the search task.

The market place seems to make a " call"  for the prices and items aviable for each subsection every time a new item gets listed, or removed, or bought.

Example:

how it should work: you open market, it syncs all subsections in 1 go, and only refreshes after X seconds past or when swapping Subsections within the market place.

What it does: resyncs every subsection whenever a single unit gets bought, placed on market, or removed from listings.

This creates a heavy work load on your pc and internet connection. because its basicly stacking up calls to the server.

This hold especially true for the subsection " market deals"  or whatever the party loot system is, this subsection refreshes every 2 seconds +/-

Now im not sure if this is still the case. however it seemed to work like this about 2 months ago when i looked into the horrible lag i had myself.

I understand people want an up to date market overview, and not miss out on stuff because they forgot to refresh or the market refreshes to late for them, however this is one of the main issues i nnoticed with the market place.

As for CoherentUI, instead of having 1 " coherentui"  task, it creates multiple of them:

1 for guild ranking

1 for normal ranking

1 for the black spirit game

and 2 more i havent been able to pinpoint yet.

As another user already pointed out ( @iller ) these task are prone to generate memory leaks. With 5 of them active thats 5 times a chance for a memory leak.

This also creates " stress"  on your cpu and memory.

Now none of this is that dangerous, atleast not on the short term.however it would do Pearl Abys good to look into streamlining this. as long term it can effect your pc in a negative way.

Also for @CM_Aethon :

There seems to be a new updated version of CoherentUI, and Bdo seems to run on a previous version, i dont have the versions ( 1.1.0 for example) memorized, but we are about 1,5 versions behind. could you perhaps ask around in the office if anyone can look into it, and perhaps, report that to Pearl Abyss?

Didn't even open up the marketplace tab, and had two of the Coherent UI processes going upon logging in.   We already know it has to do with either the black spirit game (because closing these processes would make the black spirit game unplayable, though still seeing this w/o the bsg), or the crafting notes/log in banners.  It's not limited to the marketplace whatsoever.
