Housing Monopoly

74 posts in this topic

Posted (edited)

To the BDO dev's, can we please get more towns with housing options. That is, more towns, with their own separate housing monopoly markets. Right now, since the NA servers merged, all the housing monopolies, especially in Valencia, have long since been cornered, with frankly no hope to ever switch hands. As an example, in one housing spot in Valencia, the monopoly winner has like 14,000 points, and the next person in line has like 6,000. I see this disconnect all the time in Valencia.

Well, it would be nice if there were more towns, with their own separate housing markets.

A few millions per day is worth it to you to spend a few hundred?

Stupid system. They could have designed it so that all players that want it benefit from it and they make money on furniture. Having tiny little shed sized houses doesn't help either. They need to quadruple future house sizes.

Yep they should just unlock the nodes for all instead of putting it behind a paywall as there's no way you can compete with the pearl shop furniture and the +500 set bonus

That particular system is strictly a cash shop grab. It's possible to compete without spending RL$$ but that would be an extremely long road, paved with frustration.

Will this finally open people's eyes and make them realize that p2w isn't only just costumes?

I doubt it, but here's to hoping.

The Rank 1 housing system is the oddest thing I've ever seen in an MMO. I've mulled over many different mechanics, and the best I can come up with that would be remotely competitive, is a lifeskill system that takes lifeskills, crafting, etc. that contributes to the town/city  to earn town/city contribution. And not simply who can pack their house with the most high point value furniture items.

And even then, it shouldn't limit to Rank 1. It should be a range like Rank 1 - 5. Or even better, a player that can contribute above a pre-designated threshold.

Packing your house with items isn't competitive. Contributing the the town/city is competitive.

How ? Whatever you can get free in game the cash shopper can too, but they also get their +500 set bonus so there's no way to compete with them if they want to win a specific house.

The only way to compete with them is to not compete at all and find another house they don't want

Yea, except for that whole placement point cap and how you can only increase cap through in game drops. Knowing how many points per placement point means more than Moar points.

This is why I laugh at the pay to win crew. Most of the time they are talking right out of their ass.

No, you can't. Not ever since they removed the option to stack crafted/bought furniture, while the pearl shop furniture can be stacked till your eyes bleed.

We have some 40k point on Valencia EU and trust me, you can't beat it without CS. Aside from the few room efficient things like paintings (and some other crafts like vases), you'll be out of free room before you even come close by using low value in-game items. Right now I'm not even sure you can actually reach 40k even if you were able to place every and all available in-game furnitures.

I think you're confused. The fact that there's a restriction that you can't overcome by paying money doesn't mean that, suddenly, all the advantages you do get by paying money are irrelevant—because they certainly aren't. If a game is P2W, implementing an in-game restriction doesn't mean it's not P2W, it just means there's an in-game restriction. The fact is, the advantage you get is proportional to the money you spend, regardless of whether or not everyone has an additional in-game restriction (i.e. - placement point cap).

The point that the "pay to win crew" is making is totally independent of something like the placement point cap. It's strange that you'd think a game being P2W, and that same game having some in-game restrictions that everyone must adhere to are somehow mutually exclusive.

No
just No

In a game where people will ignore an entire map to min max farm Sausans for hours on end, then turn around and theory craft some pay to win scenario that has been proven time after time after time to be hands over fist less efficient than just playing the damn game is
hypocrisy on a whole other level. Split hairs all you want. The game is fine. The cash shop as a pay to win mechanic is for whales. If they want to pay for expansion development, let em.

Wasn't there a patch way back that took away house point bonuses for duplicate items? What happened to that?

I'm not splitting hairs. You're, literally, ignoring my point.

The amount of advantage you get is proportional to the amount of money that you pay. If Player A and Player B do the same amount of work, but Player B pays a bunch of money, Player B will definitely have an advantage over Player A. Player B will always be in the advantageous position, and this advantage is proportional to how much money was spent. This is exactly what P2W is, and this is exactly the model that BDO fits. I'm not the one theory crafting here, the above Player A-B scenario is so straightforward and apparent it's almost trivially true.

On the other hand, this is theory crafting: Coming up with scenarios as to how an non-paying player could potentially match a paying player who plays less, by playing more and optimizing their [whatever] strategies.

This is very much the pot calling the kettle black.

Yeah, it works. But not on cash-shop items. They still count even if used 10 times.

Oh, that's fkng awful :x yeah, there aren't enough unique furniture items in the game to combat an infinite source of housing points.

Using the cash shop to gain advantage l access that cannot be achieved by in game means...

The rewards for just the Valencia banks, is like Millions of silver per day, with 2 workers.

The MAXIMUM you can make in a day is 12 million silver, in truth you're much more likely to hit around 1 million extra day. You're also forgetting that Valencia has 129 houses to chose from.

No you cant. At around 14k you will run out of items to place that give more than 50 points a piece.

Oh Plunge do you ever get tired of making up numbers? Over a period of over 2 months i averaged about 4m per day on just one 500m bank. And the maximum i made from that bank in one day was a little over 23m.

I'm sure you have a source for this. :) Odd that this person only got a high of 12 million, but I'm sure you've documented your numbers. Rather irnoic that you accuse someone of pulling numbers out of their arse, and then proceed to pull numbers out of your own arse.

Good one! :)

Not p2w........ also LOL costumes are hardly P2W

True P2W is when buying direct power from the cash shop and can only compete with cash shop items
