Chat Limit, Still Too Short

So many beautiful elements for roleplayers in the game, and it seems odd that chat, which is the main tool for roleplayers, wasn't given much thought. Please give us more character length.

Chat bubbles also are too short in length, and drop off the screen in 2-3 seconds. That's not long enough to read them, in most cases. Chat bubbles are a tool used by many roleplayers during in-character functions that many players attend, as chat in the box scrolls too fast to sift through without the ability to color-coordinate key words.

Also, the font size of chat can't be adjusted outside of pushing the UI size up. Not everyone has perfect eyesight, even with glasses / contacts. The ability to adjust the chat font size in the window would be a great boon for those with vision difficulties.

Please help keep this thread bumped and bring it to the CM's attention! This is a mechanic that is desperately needed, and we would be more than elated to see it extended!

We are not a 'one character per word' region. We need a far larger chat limit. Please fix this for western regions.

This is probably because you can fit more words with Hangul characters than you can fit words with Roman characters.

Absolutely! It is something that definitely needs to be adjusted for the western audience.

Being able to resize the chat box would also be a very welcome addition. As it is you can only make it larger by maxing the UI size.

+1. I would love this.

It was one of the very first things I complained about while beta testing with a friend.

Oh -god- yes please. An absolute must for roleplayers at the very least.

I'm a roleplayer, but not only is this needed for just roleplay, it's also needed to help direct PVP, too.

Thank you for making this point. My husband is visually impaired, and it's impossible for him to read the chat box. I also agree that the character limit is far too restricting. I hope the developers do something to address these issues.

I agree with this post. For any type of activity. I am one to enjoy being able to type more than some small amount. Breaking things up into multiple lines his hard to follow, and just a bit annoying at times.

I would go so far as to say the chat input is in no way sufficient for a western audience, the least of which is the character limit. I personally find it a little clunky, and basically unnecessarily re-invented from MMOs of the past. I'd even expand on it further beyond an increase the character limit.

  • Do we have the ability to create chat channels? I understand that using the term channels is going to become confusing given that channels already serve another purpose in game, but I lack a sufficient term to replace it with at this time. If not, I'd like to see player made chat channels be a thing. Functions include Join, Leave, Kick, Ban, Mute, Unmute, Password.
  • Ability to specify text-based emotes. Such as /em or /em or /e creating text in a unique color separate from usual 'general' chat color.
  • Additional styling for types of chat input. "Chat bubble call-out for text in-quotation marks."
    • bonus! Call outs for "quotation mark text" within emote text, with chat bubbles only showing the text within quotation marks.
  • Ability to resize the chat input bar.
  • Ability to move the chat input bar.
  • Ability to specify chat colors. I'd like to be able to specify colors for party, guild, whisper, etc.
  • Timestamps! Available in 12hr or 24hr formats.

The chat limit is absurdly short. I'm also a roleplayer, and that right there is a game killer for me. I hope they change it by the actual launch, or it will be literally impossible for people to roleplay in-game. You can't even get a full sentence out there, let alone a paragraph long post or more.

Here here! I hereby agree, the emphatically important chatting device needs much extending, you see. It is as wide as a valley, as tall as Merlins' beard but yet still no comfort I find, for running out of text space 'I' fear.
