Your roleplay community is growing rapidly every single day. BlackDesertRoleplayers has over one thousand members and each day we have been getting more and more. This chat length issues effects us and ruins roleplay (as does that walk toggle we were told would be fixed). Here's the summed up problem: you guys never updated the character length in anything (guild names, character names, character say length, etc) from Korean. Korean uses shorter characters in their language to express more; they don't need additional length as Indo-European languages need (English, French, German, etc).

We need this updated. We need you to increase the /say length to around 300~ characters. Please let us roleplay.

The roleplay community is huge in BDO. But the chat limit disrupts and inhibits what we do best. It's keeping a lot of us from enjoying or even participating in roleplay. And what's going to be the end result of that?

 

LOSING A MASSIVE PLAYER BASE, AND THE INCOME ASSOCIATED.

 

Come on, Daum. You've done extremely well so far. How much trouble could extending the chat limit realistically cause you? Is that trouble worth losing the number of players that will drop the game because we can't even type a full sentence in one post?

It's not just a roleplayer issue, either. Explaining mechanics to new players (or explaining anything to any player) is hindered by the short chat length. The fact that this message I am currently writing on this forum wouldn't fit into a post ingame really really sucks. English and other Indo-European languages need space to be expressed.

Agreed, the chat box is very small, and makes it more bothersome to give longer responses, without spamming the chat with 2+ posts for a reasonably small number of characters. Our alphabet isn't nearly as compact.

I think I noticed that the chat limit was increased, but it was done so slightly that it's actually hard to know. In my opinion, this chat limit still needs to be greatly increased to improve a much-needed quality-of-life in regards to being able to communicate efficiently with one another. Thank you! :)

Edit: Suggestions of 300-500 (the more the better, at least in short-range and private channels) characters have been mentioned, and that sounds like a great idea, wanted to add that in.

Edit: industry13 posted below a list of things that could greatly improve the chat in general. It deserves a signal boost:

I really miss the chat system from City of Heroes... it was so well done, better than any other I've seen since.  Custom cross-server channels, variables in your chat ($name, $archetype, $level, etc), supergroup (guild) coalition chat, etc.  So many really cool features for a chat system and all highly customizable, and if one was adept enough, one could create a script in the game's install directory to load the customized settings for each character they played or created.

This is an important part of localization that seems to be ignored in every KR translated game. Also sometimes crops up with too-short guild MOTD messages, guild names, etc.

Hope they fix it soon!

This is a very weak argument. The benefits of being able to effectively communicate with other players significantly outweigh the mild discomfort from gold spammers. The point of an MMO is to collaborate with other people, and a short chat limit makes collaboration difficult.

Gold sellers are a minor issue. Being able to communicate effectively is imperative to the MMO experience.

Actually.  The reason the limit is so tiny is because they didn't switch it over from the character limit from korean vs english.

-please- extend the chat box  limit.
With no way to make custom emotes this is really necessary for Roleplay!

This game has such a large and perfect world for the Roleplay community but just lacks simple features like a large text box.

Please change this to 300-500. It needs to be adapted for the English language, not the Korean language. This isn't Korea.

Please for all that is holy let them actually see this and give consideration to us RPers on this issue.. stupidly short chat limits puts people off of games like this.. even if they are otherwise outstanding and lovely.
