Adding survival elements to the game

Survival games are on the rise, examples are recent games like RUST, ARK, H1Z1, and most recently Playerunknown's Battlegrounds just to name a few.

Even though in my opinion, Black Desert is the best MMO in the market right now, it can always get diversify and be future proof as well as reaching a even broader audience.

Therefore I propose that Black Desert Online open up several servers that are dedicated to a survival mode, just to test it out and see if there are players who want this experience.

What do survival games have in common? Building, crafting, openworld pvp and a health depletion system that requires constant eating, drinking and protection from the elements.

Since the map in BDO is so big and filled with danger, I imagine it can be quite a fun experience to just survive out in the wild, especially if BDO introduces a more extreme weather system.

Perhaps we don't need a building system, i am never into that sorta stuff and always hated how laggy games become with player buildings.

On the other hand, I am definately into a health system that require players to eat, drink and wear clothes for protection and some kind of injury system that require the player to nurse itself back to health.

Perhaps there could be fewer towns or simply empty some towns from the normal map to create a sparser world in which there are less safe havens.

Players will mainly be hunting in the wild and gather food, clothes and medicine from the natural environment to stay alive.

However, as with all survival games, there is an inherent problem. The goal of the game in a survival game has always been just that, to stay alive, which may not be all that interesting in the long run after the novelty wears off. This is where pvp comes into play, if players have to compete for resources to stay alive, then that makes it interesting.

Obviously, I am no game developer and I don't know how plausible it is to add survival elements into BDO, but I think there is fun to be had if they introduce some of the survival elements into the already amazing game.

The only thing I liked was allowing players to design and construct their own buildings.

As for your survival "eating/drinking" and protecting from the elements, just go to the desert. Those things are already in BDO. You need to drink certain things during day or night in the desert. You need to set up tents for bad storms in the desert, etc.

They do not work in most environments because this is a game designed around keeping players online 24/7 and AFK crafting/fishing/etc is a huge part of gameplay.
