Help A Newbie Choose A Class?

I was hoping some BDO veterans could help someone considering buying the game choose a class. After watching A LOT of videos and reading a couple forums I've narrowed it down to about 3; Dark Knight, Maehwa, and Valkyrie.

I was hoping some people could give me some pros and cons on each one and give me some advice on them as well.

In case people wanted to better understand why I chose these three; Valkyrie because of tankiness and surviveabillty plus seems to do well in groups, Dark Knight because it looks like she deals pretty good damage and has some flashy moves, and finally Maehwa because she seems to have a pretty fun play style.

Also what do people think of Tamers?

in pve and pvp, dark knight is currently the strongest of the classes you listed. In terms of pve grinding speed and pvp power, the korean tournament recently showcased majority of the top16 players being dark knights.

there wasn't a single maewha or valk in that 16

I bought the game it's just when it comes to playing a mmo I usually like to focus on one character for a majority of my time before making a new one.

But thanks for the offer.

Hi,

while DK is the strongest at the moment, it's wiser to try out the classes and see which playstyle you see yourself not getting bored of after hundreds of hours of grinding.

For example, I rolled a DK during the hype and kind of regret investing so much into gearing her up because her PVE rotation is 90% pressing shift+RMB.

It's also important to note that in the developer interview, they explicitly said that all other classes will be getting buffed to be on par with DK/Witch/Wizards instead of nerfing DK/Witch/Wizards, so if you stick with whichever class you like, you will eventually see buffs for that class which will bring it in line to the OP ones.

DK is a good choice, there isn't much that will make you unhappy about the class.  Unless you get bored with it.  I did.

Valk and Maehwa can both be pretty rewarding to play.  I think Valk's playstyle is a bit more balanced.  The group playability you mention is on that point.  It can hang in front line and if played right it can be pretty fast in and out of combat.  Use that to help your friends, basically.  Maehwa, from what I've seen of it so far, has a really flashy style, but the meta for it takes you very far away from using the blade ever again.  I'm not sure how I feel about that, and it's kept me from progressing on it.

Tamer I can tell you more about.  That's what I main.  It's got a pretty solid kit of abilities, good CC, it's fun in PvE even if it's in the middle of the pack on clear speed.  Having Heilang gives you lots of cool things to do and try out, like comboing with him, learning what abilities he will do when you do certain attacks or commands.  Riding him isn't very efficient (it can be pretty terrible, honestly) but it's a fun break from the usual if you get good at it, just don't do it in PvP.  When fighting other players, Tamer has the disadvantage of being squishy, but has a lot of ways she can protect herself, and it can be very rewarding once you start to master her techniques.

Any of the classes you mentioned can be very fun though.

Valkyrie has a pretty wide toolkit, is one of the only buff classes, lots of animation cancelling and weapon swapping, some of the highest defensive scaling (60dp from buffs, free health and defense stats, thickest block, siege buff regens health, healing spell), and have some decent combo damage. They've got a number of powerful high-cooldown skills that can be used situationally which I find really fun. They have probably the slowest grind speed of all classes (it's not as bad as some people think though) and don't have crazy mobility like the other classes you mentioned.

Maehwa has a shorter toolkit but does use both awakening and pre-awakening. She specialises in short, fast, high-burst combos, meaning she may require more than one combo to finish off tankier people. Incredible mobility and even though she doesn't have as many cancels or as much weapon-swapping as Valk, I still find her satisfying to play because of how fast you have to press buttons, move the camera, and pre-plan your attacks (she relies more on specific openers which are then followed up on rather than comboing whatever is in front of her). She us basically a melee kiting class with high-risk, high-reward. Doesn't have great PvE farm speed but I think it is better than Valk and she's fairly squishy.

Don't know much about Awakened DK. We see that she has the highest kd ratio of all classes right now. Seems to be a ranged, high-speed nuker. Doesn't utilise a lot of animation cancelling or combo attacks. She is the "safest" of the mentioned options and is the fastest farmer. She doesn't seem to be as strong a duelist as the other options though but her massive aoe damage and mobility is top tier in group fights.

Tamer is pretty awesome. Again, a fairly large toolkit with lots of animation cancels and weapon-swapping. She has a pet. Tamers have probably the highest combo damage of all classes, the highest amount of free stats (but there is a cooldown), a huge aoe lockdown ability, free pet stuns, double mob aggro, and some crazy mobility. The playstyle is very much an in your face one but also uses some trickery to get out of fights once they've over commited. It's kind of like playing Fizz from league of legends...if Fizz had an aoe lockdown and a pet. Tamer is probably roughly on par with Maehwa farm speed and generally doesn't fare well in large fire fights (she is meant more for killing stragglers).

If you enjoy PvP and think about doing Sieges/Node wars I'd pick Valkyrie because it is a rare class with a lot of utility in group fights. She has 2 heals, DP buffs, a very decent block (currently bugged), high damage burst, the ability to pull enemies together (it absorbs people into a circle) making it very easy for your raid to drop AoE on your pull and destroy entire enemy raids. Also her ultimate is quite strong. Her PvE clearing speed may not be top tier but most classes are easy to play in PvE.

Tamer is the best 1v1 class in the game, very large combos, variety of skills with immunity/frontal blocks, these and Maehwas excel in 1v1 but Tamer has more damage and CC while Maehwa has high mobility and shorter combos. A tamer can be very aggresive constantly putting pressure on their enemies while Maehwa will dash around you poking you until they get a CC and then shot you down. It's also important to consider Tamer has a grab so once they get you CCed they can extend their combo with a grab easily. From these 2 Tamer has better PvE because her pet can aggro 7 mobs + 7 that you can aggro so you can damage 14 mobs at the same time while other classes can only hit 7. Also Maehwa's PvE is terrible, no WP sustain at all she has to sit behind her block to regenerate WP or chug potions, this + her small aoe skills makes it a bad choice for PvE.

Dark Knight is like Witch and Maehwa had a child: very high mobility with AoE nukes, just like Tamers can pressure you at close range these little bastards do it from range, they have high damage, AoE and iframes/frontal blocks to constantly move around you throwing AoEs they excel at nuking down fast targets and are hard to catch. Any ranged class has high utility in large scale fights so this class is alright for it. Her PvE is obviously good, new players have a hard time with her MP sustain, you just have to learn how to use it.

i would choose maewha from this list coz i dont care about how strong a class is, they will get changed anyway from time to time. And maewha is the coolest one
