Custom chat emotes

I'd like to suggest the implementation of custom emotes. The value of this feature is mostly roleplay oriented. Having this feature really helps create a more immersive experience so I'd like to see it in the game.

For those unaware, what I mean with custom emotes is a '/e command' or '/me command'. With this feature you can describe your character performing an action of some sorts. For example, the player would type: "/e takes a seat in one of the nearby chairs."
Which would then come out as: "Player takes a seat in one of the nearby chairs."

Emotes are often in a different colour than your regular chat which helps distinguish them as well. It's a pretty minor feature in the grand scheme of things but I consider it one I value highly. Most MMOs I know have custom emotes and it'd be a shame if Black Desert didn't follow suit since it helps the roleplay community out a lot. It really stimulates good roleplay so I feel Black Desert should have it. Even Skype has a similar feature these days.

Added a picture to offer a clearer example:

I agree. This would be a really good addition for roleplayers if it could be implemented.

Being a RPer myself, I second this. I'm not sure if any other version of the game has it, but, it would be a great addition for all of us.

This would be a really nice feature to add. I dont think this would take long for the team to add something like this. It would give the RP community a lot more depth, that could not normally be there with just regular emotes.

I was about to call C'thulu upon your ass for even trying to suggest the idea for emoticons. i misread emotes so it turned out a whole different story at first :P

But yes, emotes would be awesome, even for non-rp'ers, everyone used emotes in previous games at one point.

It's not a major feature for PvE/PvP players, but it is downright essential for roleplayers. With the amazing RP potential of BDO, I don't see why it wouldn't have this feature. I don't remember it being in the KR version, though I could have just missed it.

I agree with this idea +1. :)

Also would like to had a few of my own:  dance moves should be added. How can we have walk and not dance?! O.o

And one more idea: why not have shared actions, like hugging, etc.? I know it'll not be implemented right now but it could be a nice add in the future. These could be bought in the Cash shop, maybe o.O

Definitely would like to see an /em or /emote function in this game. Very important feature for RPers and it's in practically every major MMORPG released in the west these days.

I have to add my agreement/support! It might not seem like a big deal but it certainly is an immense boon to the quality of life for roleplayers in any game.

Agreed! This should be relatively easy to implement and would go a long way for the QoL of roleplayers! They clearly have RP in mind with many of their little systems and the new walk feature, this should round things out nicely! Also, roleplayers are well known for buying cash shop costumes anyway, so it's a good thing to encourage!

Emotes are great for writing out actions versus using say for everything, so I definitely voice my support for this as well!

It'd be cool to help us macro our in game animated emotes, too. Like if we can do /e blahblah as our macro instead of a random key or /said word.

As mentioned, an important feature that shouldn't take too much work to add. Another vote from me.

I'd definitely like to see this. I'm honestly a bit surprised it's not already implemented, although I don't know how KR and RU players feel about roleplaying.

Even though I'm not an RP player, I support your want of this, lol.

Edit: More immersion is always welcome.

I'm not against this, but honestly, you could just as well use stars, brackets or book style to do custom emotes.

This is true, but it's messy, and with the BDO chatbox limit already being rather small there's not much space for both dialogue and emoting. You'd constantly be needing to '>' or '-' or 'cont' at the end of everything, making extra posts for even simple things.

Yes, like in almost every other MMO. For example GW2. There you have such an emote channel and you have to split the text nonetheless - be it in said emote channel or in the say channel. Doesn't matter. The only game I can think of right now that doesn't have this issue is TSW. But aside from that, I find splitting the text between two channels to be much more of a mess, because it destroys the text flow. Guess that boils down to taste.

I don't think it's necessary or even convenient at all, but it would have my blessing either way. In the end, it doesn't harm anyone to have an additional channel.

Personally I prefer TSW's system (please give us longer text boxes, BDO?), and I know what you mean about breaking text flow, but yeah. At the end of the day, a lot of people prefer the system of /say and /e and as you point out, it doesn't harm anyone to add this, it just creates benefits for those who'd use it.

I wanted to post on here with my support for a /e /me chat function in the game. I probably use this more than real emotes in my rp.

Would love this option to be available! But they'd have to make changes to the chat box to actually make it useful...
