U.S. Service member Overseas Question

Hello to the forum members!

So, to start out, I recently wanted to pre-order my copy of Black desert, to show my dedication to a game I've followed for a long time now. Followed updates, Overseas betas, etc. But I realized the restriction of the IP service areas would not apply to me due to my job overseas as a USAF Airman, stationed within Japan.

Now, on our base I use a U.S. router that I purchased with a modem given to me by the local internet supplier, unfortunately it does still read us as located in Japan. I was curious if there were any options for us servicemen and women that show interest in this game but are stuck unfortunately overseas. I would obviously rather avoid playing on the Japanese servers, as my friends and family will be on the U.S. version.

I'm going to assume the best option would be to use VPNs, if anyone has a certain recommendation, please let me know on that subject.

But again, I ask if Daum has any plans to assist with the military members and their station, along with the inability to even purchase the pre-order due to our location. Would appreciate any thoughts or assistance on the topic!

Thank you!

I've seen this come up on other games. I have yet to see the game companies go out of their way to accommodate servicemen. I don't think it's realistic for them to step in. Especially since Europe has a ton of countries they would need to support!

But yes a VPN would be your option, and you might want to pick a class that isn't as ping dependent in that case.

Any access to the game and shop from IPs that are not listed as allowed countries will be blocked.

The ToU prihibits usage of 3rd party software that would allow the user to play the game in ways it otherwise would not be possible. This can, but must not, include VPNs.

VPNs do not affect gameplay. However, there hasn't been a official statement about this.

If nothing else, they won't support VPN. Publishers usually avoid saying too much about VPN for a lot of reasons.

They can't say YOU can use VPN, but Bob can not use VPN.

I don't know if the EU/NA version plans on keeping track of your last logged in IPs or not.(rarely is that an issue, but is typically the only thing to worry about)

So, If I'm understanding your post correctly, there may not be an option for us at all? Surely as quite a number of consumers we would like at least some options given to us by Daum hopefully. Or in someway make it possible for us to enjoy the game should we choose to invest our money into it.

Unless I'm wrong and they don't plan to have any options for us whatsoever.

What Game company does? Your situation is a fringe one, and I am sure you understand that. Can't see how they could devote resources to accommodate for you guys.

Especially when you can make things happen *wink*

There is no official statement that VPNs are considered as 3rd party software that affects gameplay, based on the line in the ToU. There is no statement whether VPNs will be bannable or not.

This is just my word. I'd wait for DAUMs response.

What DAUM doesn't know won't hurt them - maybe, possibly, probably.

VPN itself isn't bannable, you can't trace it.

However, if the company logs how many IP's you cycle through and have rules around that is where you could get caught out there. Not all companies care about this, so that is the real question.

Will Daum EU log IP's and lock down on accounts that are accessed by too many ips.

I'd like to think companies in the past have tried to accommodate their customers, as I've played games with SoE, Blizzard, and a few others. And there are certain companies that are obviously less interested in assisting. But some that really shined in trying to find the best way for you to enjoy the game.

There are always attempts for a peaceful solution ;) Haha.

I could play in internet cafes or play from a friends house, I could play from a university dorm.

Even if they log IPs, it does not have to mean anything. Usage of VPNs cannot be proven.

I've played with servicemen as long as I have played online games. I never heard of any of them getting help from the company directly, so that is news to me.

When I joked about making things happen I just mean silently VPNing :)

Yep, that was my point. You can't tell if it is VPN and many companies know people move about. I know only one game that was banning people for IP changing too fast. But that game had lots of other issues and started reaching at straws.

Most of the time they just ask you to verify that the new IP is you. and that is all.

However I do understand the reserve of paying for a game to potentially have issues because of location.

As was I! :)

One can only hope there may be options. But glad the community is good enough to assist and communicate together. Really hoping to be apart of building this up together with everyone.

I'm fairly sure you will be able to play to you heart's content through a VPN, as I doubt daum will invest resources to actively discourage their use.

Might be better to not wait for Daum's response - they may be contractually obligated to say you're not allowed to use a VPN, but they're probably not very motivated to enforce that if they're not forced to take a stance. :)

They ip blocked countries is according to the contract, if they are not binded by PA to go FBI on the players why would they? it will only hurt their fundings and require extra work.

That is a very likely scenario, considering the way most contracts and companies work.

i used Softether  and WTFast to play the japanese servers , once i was in game i turned of the softether vpn and used the wtfast connection so that i got good speeds

it should work like this

  1. Start SoftEther and connect to a English/us VPN

  2. Start WTFast select eng/us 1-4  as the server (find one that works only 4 worked on JP servers) , but do not click "Start Game" yet (This was useing a internet browser to start the game since KR and JP use the internet explorer )

  3. Start Black Desert and wait till you are at the title-screen

  4. Disconnect from SoftEther and close it

  5. Wait till your normal internet connection is restored

  6. Go back to WTFast and press Start Game and let it do its GPN thing

  7. Once WTFast is done, switch back to Black Desert's title-screen and start!

there will likely be a guide when its released i just butcherd the JP guide

I had really good luck with VPNGate.net (free service put on by the university system). Your other option would be to play with the JP servers and english translator. The only crappy thing about that is you won't be able to play with that character on NA when you come back home :(

Hope Daum does help you out though <3 Thank you so much for your service!!!!!!
