Go Nvidia and don't look back. For around that price point you can find a last gen Nvidia or something current like a 4gb Gtx 960.

You will want the drivers and sheer support that goes along with Nvidia.

You literally just suggested a weaker card that's also $60-$80 more expensive...

I honestly don't think anyone can give you a definitive answer to that question unless they have that exact same setup and have tested it on BDO.

Well I was under the impression that you were on a tight budget. The GTX 970 is the obvious choice for optimal price performance.

Yes that 5850 is very old... Also do not listen to bias people... AMD or Nvidia it really is up to you. ATM AMD has more bang for buck.

The 7970 may have been used for mining in which it has been heavily used. However either way an upgrade is an upgrade.

Honestly though.. You should save and try and upgrade your entire system.

Best of luck.

I honestly wouldn't upgrade your GPU too much unless you're also going to upgrade your CPU. Also, get a SSD. It works wonders.

Not necessarily, and its not just about "stronger vs weaker". Comparing specs is fine, you will even find the 960 ti would surpass the AMD on things like core speed and memory speed... but at the end of the day the software side of thing is just as if not more important. Thats why you go with Nvidia, even a weaker card or the perception of one, can still hold MORE value as a result.

I also recommended finding an older gtx card, don't forget that.

"Thats why I wont reply those xDD maybe 970 surpass the 7970"

Well I just finished building two new PCs, Intel i7 5820k, 32GB of DDR4 RAM... and more importantly one with a 970 and another with a 980 ti. I have built others, often times using an older GTX or a 960 TI for those on a budget. Now you can ignore me because it doesnt fit your confirmation bias, or you could consider that someone giving advice (to which you might be on a budget) might actually know a thing or two about building a solid gaming/work rig.

Food for thought. If you can afford a 970, then go for it, but stick with Nvidia.

(AMD is up for sale btw, one of those showing interest in buying them out is Samsung. Maybe then their cards will get the support needed to compete at the same level as Nvidia, but its not recommended atm).

Take it as you will, since I honestly stopped giving a ----- about AMD since I stopped working in IT. But I'm playing this on a Core2Duo @ 4.06GHz.

Do it. You can always upgrade your Mainboard and CPU later on and since the HD 7970 3gb uses GCN, it's about as fast as the r9 380 and fully compatible with upcoming DX12 titles and AMDs new Crimson series drivers.

Honestly i never recommend anything other than nVidia, but thats just me.

On a different note, your 1gb gpu is going to get hammered hard, so an upgrade is necessary.

Games the last couple of years has become very CPU demanding aswell, so its very easy to bottleneck systems nowadays by just upgrading the GPU. And unless you are a hardware specialist its very hard to predict how old CPUs will work with newer GPUs on these new games.

Concur ssd is the best upgrade.

My 2 cents wait until you spend 600-800 on a full rig instead of upgrading piecemeal.

Personally my system is an old i5 2500k, with 16gb of ddr3 and a gtx970, and so far it has had no problem with any game ive thrown at it, 60 fps+ with ultra on pretty much anything.

Considering that CPU is from what... 2011? id say that is amazing, and why I only build nVidia/intel machines.

Its overclocked to 4600ghz tho, with water cooling. And it outperforms some of the 4790k, which not only is 4 years younger, but also twice as expensive as mine was when i got it :P

Now thats VALUE!
