BDO is NOT a PvP game...

First off this is just a factual account of events of how "PvP" works in BDO and it is a horrible system, here is why.

I am a level 51 Wizard and I was grinding catfish in my own little spot sharing if needed as long as other people wouldn't intentionally KS me. Well today a group decides they want to take over the spot and after maybe 15 minutes of this I get tired of it and wipe them out. I lose 250,000+ karma for doing this. They immediately respawn at the node, call for help from their guild and instead of being 5v1 it is now 9v1 and 4 have ghillie suits. I continue to fight and here's where it starts to get bad. I am not flagged for PvP but they flag to attack me so I have to turn it on to fight back, for some reason it will not allow you to fight back unless you also flag, so I die a few times and they die a few times and I realize my karma is now -300,000+ and I have lost ALL of the gems in my equipment and about 20% of my current experience gained. I decide this is futile and move to the Mediah Castle. On my way I get attacked by guards everywhere so I can't really use any shops easily. I get to the castle to grind and there is another person from the guild I was fighting and they attack me, they die. They keep zerging and keep dying. Every time I killed them I lost karma and I am now at -800,000 karma. Every time I died I lost 2% of my current experience total and ALL of the new gems I put in my gear. So where is the PvP if the penalties are so steep that you can not actually PvP unless it is a guild war? You can not defend a grind spot you're in and the only way to truly PvP is if you're attacked by someone then you can flag and fight back? This is by far the worst system I have ever seen and for this I think the game will die quickly which is unfortunate because I thought it was a fantastic game.

TLDR you got swarmed by a guild and you were solo; instead of letting them eat faceloads of negative karma you flagged and built up your own negative karma to the point of no return.

You could have let them eat the negative karma, go red and then had your free run of fighting back FYI; the exact same way that they did to you... also in any pvp game if you're flying solo and they're using the buddy system you're gonna have a bad time.

Is the only option to find an area and grind for days to lose the karma now? It's not possible to find an area to grind that is empty afaik.

Or just look at the youtube guides on where to grind for your level and go to *NOT* that place because there are always alternatives that are mostly left vacant.

Much better to get .3% / kill somewhere empty than fight 3 other groups for .5% / kill

Every spot people complain are hard to find a good grind I've been breezing through because I just avoid the spots everyone says to go to.

If you're a one man band or a small guild you will likely get wrecked trying to keep those optimal spots.

Yes you are 100% correct, it is not a pvp game.

It is a GvG game.

Agree with the idea that it's a game more geared towards GvG.

Yea I feel you... I kind of think its a useless setup if you want to solo. Also, I dont think its fair that there is so many idiots that like to pve and just come in and KS and take over other peoples grind spots. This is BS.... Its seems this game penalizes pvpers yet idiot pvers that abuse the system and dont give a #### about anyone else can abuse the system. There should be some kind of penalty for people like this just as there is penalties for pvp pking in my opinion

You might want to learn the PvP mechanics before you flag yourself and go "Rambo" on some group trying to take your carebear farm spot.  Just saying.

Although the world PvP is kinda weak... the main pvp aspects arent even in the game yet. (sieges + node wars) so how can you really judge?

Why didn't you just ks them in return.

But I do agree, this game is way too punishing on  PvP. Criminals still have incentives to commit crime, but there really isn't one here.

I personally think this should be an incentive system like this

I like the ability to just say I don't like you at all and just killing you. It'd be only occasional that I'd do this, but I wish the karma system was grander. Right now, it feels like you get punished for PK without real benefits outside of griefing them in that moment. The bad karma and criminal status makes the feeling really not worthwhile. I think there should be balancing effects.

I don't like the "crime doesn't pay" mentality, I'd prefer a "crime pays occasionally, if done correctly" mentality that mirrors real life.

There should be a system where if you escape with 50% or more of your HP, you gain a notoriety status. The more notoriety you receive, the longer you are flagged as a criminal[every increase in rank results in 50 seconds longer of being flagged, Crimelord being ranked 10, with 500(8 minutes 20 seconds)] seconds added to your based 3 minute flagged duration. In this process, the more crimes created near a particular town will decrease the value of housing, goods, increases in illegal trades, decreases in imperial trades(with higher prices). This process should come with 20% increase in negative karma build up per pk.

Juxtaposing this system should be a system that rewards players that generally catch and kill criminals, increased good rep of the surrounding cities with safer areas, increased value of goods, housing etc. Good Samaritans(rank 10 in good karma) get treated like heroes that get perks like 5% combat exp or +1 luck or something.

Should have killed them all once, called them a bad word, and then left. They would be pissed at you, instead of the other way around :D

I think you're partially to blame for not leaving.

Why do people make such childish comments when someone's voicing a negative aspect of the game.

You seriously can't say what he described happen promotes good PvP, it's obvious the only "successful" way to PvP is GvG without major punishment and that's a flaw right there.

The problem is, without a system like this, the PvE people end up complaining about PvP people. If the system remains in place, the PvP people dislike it and the PvE people are fine with it... urg. An endless cycle.

this just emphasizes how utterly  incapable this company is of making a proper pvp game. They have no idea :(.

It's more a matter of experience and understanding how to actually win with the rules rather than fighting the rules and wondering why it worked out so poorly.

Any time a player tries to go 1vG it's going to be bad; he could have used the karma system against them the exact same way they used it against him; by letting them take the karma hit and coming back to the node 10 feet away so he could fight without scoring massive negative karma; instead he walked right into them letting him feed his own negative karma.

Wizard = Master of AoE , if they ks you just ks them back. You only need to plant 1-2 aoes to steal it all.
