gold-seller Getting rid of Gold-Sell spam

Hello everyone,

I came up with a possible solution for the Gold-sell spam.

Gold-Sellers have been around from the beginning. And even though the developers have tried resolving the problem, they didn't succeed, yet.

So I began thinking about a way to stop the sellers and make the Channel chat a bit better. I came up with two possible solution and am curious what you guys think of it.

1. Bann certain words

-The website I mostly see in chat is: 'Bikinipanda''. By banning the Word they won't be able to promote their website anymore.

2. Report function

-It would be great to have a option to report Gold-Seller. The report shouldn't cost any energy. And only when a Family gets 10 reports the devs will have to look into the problem, and bann the account if the reports turn out to be Valid.

This is my first Post, so please be nice, and correct me if I made any mistakes.

Symfox, while it may seem a simple fix, having certain words banned wouldn't work as you may think. You're dealing with human beings who are, if nothing else, crafty. So if their site is Bikinipanda, and that gets banned? They change it to B i k i n i p a n d a, or some such. It's been done, and will be done again.

There is a report/ban person function, but as you pointed out it currently costs 30 energy to do this. THIRTY energy points, taken out of my resources, to report a gold seller to @Daum. Seems like this is a bit problematic, dontcha think? Daum, guys, really. Think about this. You're taking a very handy tool -- us -- out of your arsenal and relying on yourselves and possibly coding to catch & silence gold sellers. Curiosity here -- how's that working for you? If nothing else, make the first ban within a period free. Second, say within 10 minutes, costs 5 energy. And so on. While I still have a HUGE problem with you charging energy for reporting people, I think if you absolutely believe you must do this, then a slowly escalating system, with a specific time period in place, might be a better answer.

Ta!

This is how most services do real-world chat/email filtering these days. It's super effective. It should be used.

I'm pretty darn sure most gold spam comes from free passes. they usually wont risk paid accounts for it.

fix 99% of chat spam:

  • Deny free passes from chatting in Channel chat (add a message encouraging them to buy the game if they want to talk in channel chat.

How's that no-trade crap idea working out?

It's actually quite effective.

The gold sellers can only sell a few services like power leveling.

The items they sell in game are mostly purchased with stolen credit card info.

So whoever is stupid enough to buy said items from them will likely have their account banned permanently.

What the devs need to do, is remove the energy cost associated with ignoring or reporting someone in chat.

blocking someone costs no energy. chat ban requests cost energy because they don't want large guilds bullying others by mass requesting chat bans on players. I don't like automated systems personally and I'd prefer if there were appointed community members able to do 24hr chat bans and submit streamlined ban requests to the GMs. Human interaction is always king.

Blocking doesn't cost anything, but I just requested chat ban, which cost me 20 energy. TWENTY energy.
I don't really complain a lot, but this is kind of getting on my nerves. When all I see in chat are gold sellers.

The chat system needs a major overhaul, in my opinion, based on other games I have played. I realize the game just launched and it will take some time to work out the kinks, but it would be nice to have something in place before any future major game events and/or expansions.
