Don't you guys want to wait to have more information about the class itself first ? :P

Or at least knowing the gameplay intended, maybe it's already planned to have a mal counterpart.

I think @quebae summed it up pretty well!

And I don't think this thread is meant to imply there will be no male version, it's more or less of a reassurance just in case? Like if they are doing it, all is good no worries, this changes nothing, but if they aren't this at least lets them know far ahead while still in the planning stages that we would really like that option.

I figured it's best to let everyone know early, rather than to wait until it's released and then go:  "Oh, you know what'd be nice?"  When they're already 5 steps ahead and aren't planning on looking back.  It's more of a reassurance to let 'em know we're interested in the idea, just in case it isn't on the table.  If it is?  Then awesome, nothing to worry about.

A lot of people, including Koreans, are a little bummed that the wizard is forced to be older and don't like his look.  As I stated above, there are tons of young male wizards in the lore and around as NPCs, as well as plenty of male Sorcerers around Tarif.

I for sure hate that they have to be old.. i did a pretty good job combating this, but still, it's a pain.

Wheres the option where we scrap the generic sword fem fatale female, and make the much needed male a gunner/specialist?

It is a disparity when none of the male classes even lick the top tier PVP/PVE classes in game. The lack of viable male classes in this game is concerning. I am not a fan of playing female characters, mostly because I would like a male representation in game that reflects myself to RP. The male classes in this game especially in the EU/NA version are limiting, none are top tier in 1v1, 1v2, GVG or any form of PVP. They all also fall behind their counterparts in terms of PVE play as well.

Ive found myself playing my sorcerer more and more because it feels more akin to the sword and spell class types that I am accustomed to. The Warrior falls far behind the Valkyrie and like wise for the Wizard and Witch. The Berserker is mid-tier of use, but nothing compared to the Sorcerer or Ranger in terms CC.

I could be playing the classes wrong, but I cant imagine that badly.

Let Dark Elf be female class only but in return give us Dwarf compensation! Maybe a Dwarf warr/zerker mix with a battleaxe:D

My personal feeling on this is that I don't necessarily want a clone of this class. I just want a male Elf class in general. It can easily be made into a "dark elf"-esque aesthetic. They can be musket-wielding wildmen for all I care. So, my answer to a Dark Elf counterpart is "No". I'd like PA to create more unique classes but give us an even male/female ratio.

Personally im just excited that we are getting a class with this type of playstyle. It literally got me to download KR bdo again just to wait. Playing as a female or male ingame doesnt bother me, as long as they dont have annoying voices during their animations (witch/ranger). However, a small part of me only wants this class to be male so the majority of costume options wont be skimpy, like all the other female costumes.

This, basicly exactly what they have been doing since post-release in KR :) (Blader/Plum/Ninja/Koniouchi etc)

Anyhow, people don't know what is gonna happen and yet they wind it all up.

So im up there with ya Vyce ;)

I'll be blunt. I'm gay, and I find it absolutely repulsive to have to ogle a slutty, scantily dressed girl all goddamn day long in order to play a class I like.  So when another big-titted waifu class is announced, I'm less than happy to say the least.

The problem with that mindset is that, in the case of the information not being to our liking / there is no male counterpart, delaying our views until further down the development line only worsens our odds of having any actual impact. It's smarter to just make it clear what we want now, during earlier development stages where things are more flexible. than months later when most of the process is all but set in stone.

While I have no problem with unique classes, when it comes to gaming there is typically a big problem of stereotyping with classes when you follow this sort of mindset. Look at the current roster of classes for bdo, a majority of the males are close ranged melee classes (berserker, warrior, ninja, blader) with one aoe nuking caster class (wizard), on the female side we have several magical classes, two of which are flexible mid to close range fighters, a full out ranged class, and two close combat classes(which were only a result of daum backing down somewhat on their stance of largely unique classes per). And even after PA started making alternatives, notice how all the female variants wind up being more support based and the males being more offensive. I'm not saying those roles shouldn't be allowed or are wrong, but when you can see a clear trend in the design of each genders classes it becomes somewhat unsavory / limiting instead of creative.

You are also missing the purpose of this thread, it isn't meant to wind anyone up, it's meant to make clear our desires to Daum and subsequently PA that we would very much like/desire a male night elf. If that option is already in the works then no harm has been done, if not though, this thread servers as a means of us trying to convince them to give it a shot, at least before they get too far into other projects.

Currently, a lot of the classes are female.

I know it's an habit to blow stuff out of proportion on forums, but so far there are 5 male and 7 female classes that have been released. We are far from "a lot of classes are female", it's just above average since if one of the female classes "without counterpart" was male, it would be 50/50.

Can you guys just say you don't like gender lock and be done with it ?

Anyway, I don't care what gender that new class will be, I'm fine with both as long as the class is interesting in itself.

Even if I didn't want to play one personally (which is frickin' hypothetical as hell because I really do), I would still vote in support of something like this. Not only do you need to provide variety for players in general, but BDO is frightfully lacking when it comes to playable males. Continuing on this path of female only releases does nothing but shoot itself in the foot. Have we not seen games run into serious trouble with this in past? Most recently, look at all the heat Tera took from all the female only class/cosmetic releases. Granted, that game is struggling for all sorts of reasons, but the gender-locking certainly made things far, far worse and in some cases, downright intolerable.

You're looking purely at the stats, what you fail to realize is why people say "a lot of classes are female".  A lot of people are drawn to this game because of the beauty of its open world and the freedom you get when you create your character.  So when you go to create a class you know you love playing and your only option is an ugly, wrinkly octogenarian you start to be annoyed that all the female classes are beautiful and flawless, you feel utterly cheated.  So yes, a lot of worthwhile classes are female, because they don't have to compromise.

Don't get me wrong, I share you same feelings. You don't have to ogle them tho :o

Haha, by ogle I just meant that it's hard to ignore the blatant gimmick that is jiggle physics.

Which will probably never happen, they would have to redo the models/animation/armor/costumes/whatever of each class without a male or a female counterpart. One can still hope though.

@Regi : You aren't making much sense to me, sorry. It looks like you are basing your class choice on your aesthetics, that you like female aesthetics (they are beautiful and flawless in your own words) but you don't like them just because they are females even if you like the class overall ?

I'd rather the witch be forced to be a crone than the wizard be a young man. Lore-wise, these are learned scholars of a magic that takes a long time to master. The Witch is a cop-out. "She's a prodigy." Make her an old woman.

I don't really play male characters in games if I have the choice to play a female, due to private reasons. So far luckily the roles I wanted to play were female, but I can understand there shouldn't be a genderlock on classes.

I would like it to focus a lot on magic, Like the sorceress or like a necromancer because when they first announced dark elves I thought that ment we could get the male counterclass for sorceress.

Although the playstyle does not matter as long as they also make an evil male class as well. Hopefully they will make the dark elves darker as well since they are called dark elves after all. Keep up the good work PA and Daum!

You can get that out of having a male counterpart that's more different though, which is why I included those options.

I personally am all for options similar to what we have with the Witch/Wizard and Blader/Plum. The NA and EU crowd as a whole aren't as big of fans as the gender separated classes, especially on the roleplayer side of things. We like to have the male and female versions!

Might as well have a male / female version of each class ... and be able to have better control over the age appearance (looking at you old Wizard, and young Witch builds)

AND more character slots ... so we can have one of each easier

Yeah it's especially bad on the ranger. Her thighs jiggle WAY too much

Which will probably never happen, they would have to redo the models/animation/armor/costumes/whatever of each class without a male or a female counterpart. One can still hope though.

They literally used the warrior model for the ninja, so no they don't have to redo models. Animations between the witch and wizard are the same, so don't have to do that either. Costumes are the same across all classes except for special ones, so they don't have to do that. AND armor for the wiz and witch are the same. So what exactly is stopping them from correcting their mistake? nothing.

I'd rather the witch be forced to be a crone than the wizard be a young man. Lore-wise, these are learned scholars of a magic that takes a long time to master. The Witch is a cop-out. "She's a prodigy." Make her an old woman.

That lore that EVERYONE keeps referencing is not even real. If you play the game you will see a billion different magic users that aren't all old. (Tarfi, enemy npcs, taverns etc.)
