Why does this game require a 5 hour down time every time it does a weekly maintenace? While gw2 can do it on the fly?

Honestly even gw1 which is like 100 years old can do it on the fly

GW1 has had approximately 30 hours of downtime over about 7 years.

and this game in 2016 takes 5 HOURS every week to do a 1mb patch during PRIME TIME for some people....

Thanks duam

Because GW2 isn't catching up with 2 patches a month to a korean version that is far, far ahead.

Oh the nerve, they're patching in the year 2016, who woulda thought this world was so cruel? It's one day a week, often finished earlier than announced times. What kind of villains are Daum to take away your precious PRIME TIME, why can't we all cater to you?

Because unlike Gw1, BDO is much newer, running on a much newer and better looking engine, that has zero instances and is huge.

It also has a bunch more systems in place.

When the entire game is instanced, its fairly easy to do maintenance on the fly.

You are like my mom, whining about how the computer takes 15 minutes to boot when its filled with alll sorts of crap, is 10 years old. infested with viruses and she knows jack shit about computers.

Because we just had a cash shop update which means that this patch will have nothing but the next patch has 2 new classes, your point? That's 2 content patches per month did you not read or you just wanna be THAT soccer mom?

Because that is how the game designed? Yes! That is the answer.

Now have a good day with REAL AFK.

Can we not pretend that GW is still relevant?

Because ArenaNet has developed a system where servers don't go down when maintenance is done. They patented it 10 years ago, i think, on GW1, and not much companies have it. I think they are not selling it. Simple answer with not much of a debate.

Considering it's still the Number 2 MMO on market it still is very relevant

Guild Wars? The almost dead 10 year old mega instanced "MMO" is number 2 on the market? I didn't mean GW2, I meant GW1.

Last I checked, WoW still had 8 hr weekly maintenance, as well as multi-hour maintenance for D3. I'm glad it's only 4-5 hrs for this game.

I said Guild Wars, not Guild Wars 2, literacy is key here.

GW2 isn't an seamless open world, one is hard pressed to even call it an mmo. It's almost entirely made of instances and everything is separated, no world pvp or world interaction. It's on a big megaserver that is split into lots of channels which are split into hundreds of instances and moba-style battle arena's that probably have their own small shards that don't require maintenance.

Think of EVEonline which is the only true persistent open world game, they literally have downtime every morning to maintain their server (they don't even have channels or shards) so the price we pay for an actual breathing world is pretty small, you should be asleep anyways (unless you're an aussie)

EDIT: realized OP was talking about gw1...which is even less of an MMO than gw2! Seriously, how can you equate such an old and instanced game with BDO!

Probably cause they use potato servers.

@Keg "you should be asleep anyways (unless your an aussie)"

Fixed: Unless you are an Aussie, live in Asia, the Middle East, Europe or Iceland.

So yeah, everything doesn't revolve around the US.

How exactly is it relevant?

What has popularity to do with how the game is developed or how the engine runs?

Thats like saying just because Toyota sells more cars than Ferrari, they should work the same.

GW2 had plenty of downtime around launch, this game is vastly more complex too.

If you are living in Asia, the middle east, Europe of Iceland, you have your respective servers to join (although I give you a pass for euro/Iceland since we share a forum) and the DT is still pretty late for both servers and a more than acceptable time to be asleep, so yeah...just aussies! Nice anti-American hostilities though! Maybe once other countries actually start paying for their own militaries the world WILL stop revolving around us :)

This game is much more complex than GW2... If you hadn't noticed, it's a completely seamless world with no loading screens. While GW2 is nothing but instances and square zones.

The tech between the two doesn't even compare.
