Not sure if BDO should be taking up this much memory or I'm crazy.

Other people reported this problem as well, it happens when you leave the game running for a long time.  Just restart it occasionally.

Yep.

Supposedly PA knows about this and we get a fix soon.

Every single MMO I played has this issue. They will deny it's a memory leak, but it is. Probably something that can't really be fixed or not worth fixing.

It takes so many hours to happen. Its good to relaunch the app once in a blue though. I crash when alt swapping so this rarely becomes much of an issue :)

I always crash when switching 2 times, 1 is fine :P

This happened in an hour though. That's a bit quick for how much memory it takes up. It didn't occur before the Musa/Maewha update either.

Wow. Mine was only using 2.6 GB after 24 hours. How long did you have to leave it running to get THAT?

Yeah, that's what happens when you run third party software to inject scripts into the client.  I don't see any other reason to hide your applications on task manager other than that :) (and it is true, if you see their forums this is a common problem for using it)

the memory leak issue happens to many of us even if we don't use any injectors. Not in 1 hour, but over the course of a day or so it can happen. I wouldn't assume that is the only reason people experience a memory leak.

I'm already at 5.25 gbs after 3-4 hours. ive seen it hit about 11 gb. I have swapped characters several times though and they are in different parts of the world. I think that contributes.

Most all games ever made have memory leaks. Its not about damming a leak but, merely stemming the flow, making it leak as little as possible so it can last as long as the program is expected to run on average by the typical user. The smaller the leak and the more RAM you have equals a longer time until the dreaded OOM.

Age of Conan was horrible at launch (or maybe the first patch), I could get maybe forty five minutes to an hour tops. I'd rate BDO's problem pretty mild for the average MMO release.

Also, you should run a Mem test on your PC and check for bad sectors that would indicate a stick in need of replacement.

I was also autolooping through Heidel, but I was going in and out of the town around the perimeter. It could be from the constant loading of characters near the marketplace + storage keeper?

I don't see a reason to assume what you don't know. I have the entire image, but to avoid something like what Hamstermascot just did. Not a lot of people like scrolling constantly. It was simply to emphasize the point. A lot of people hate the forums because of people like you who aren't helpful.

Not just leaving your game open, but leaving your PC on as well. Restart your PC occasionally. I'm not sure if deleting your %temp% folder helps but doesn't hurt to try that as well.

I've done that multiple times. Now resorting to a program to keep memory usage / clear memory.

I have this problem since the last patch, it crashes when my char is in a busy town like Heidel or Calpheon, a character on a less crowdy place has no issues.
And with crashing i mean, within minutes, memory usage goes up 1% a second, my character in Heidel can't even move.
And just FYI:
Yesterday I reinstalled W10, and DBO, just to be sure, nothing else is running, after every crash I reboot, just to clean stuff up.
No 'extra' tooling or injectors.

well i keep my game on for the full week if it doesnt crash the whole week (until maintenance) and I get over those numbers. rarely. BDO is a 64bit game so it has a lot more access to memory than most other mmos since even now a lot of mmos launch as 32 bit executables (for compatability with dinky 32bit last centuary hardware).

memory leaks simply happen as a facet of c based coding (which is what i believe the game is written in, c++ specifically) and they are very hard to completely remove unless you are super conscious of them when you start coding. There's a ton of other reasons why but thats the simplest way to explain it. developers look to minimize memory leaks. and honestly pa has done a good job at it.
