Cannot change channel due to restrictions

When I try to access any channel on Uno server, I keep getting cannot change channel due to restrictions error and disconnects me from the game.. Before I logged off for maintenance I was on Valencia 3. Since that channel has been removed, would that be causing this issue? Its been 24hrs and still can't log on. I put in a support ticket and that has yet to be answered.

Question, did you recently use the bookshelf in a residence? If so, was it on an offline character? As in, you had them read from the bookshelf then switched characters or went offline after you set the task? Same question for @Bstt and @kiralia.

I've had this same error a couple times now and I'm almost positive that's what's been causing it for me. The first time I had to wait about 2 days then I was able to get past server channel selection. The second time, and this was odd, I was able to get past channel selection by selecting the channel I was previously logged onto. It seemed odd to me because the first time I had tried selecting each different channel several times each and I wasn't able to log on and just had to wait it out. But since you were on Valencia 3, you obviously won't be able to try selecting the channel you were previously on.

I've searched through reddit and this sites forums and I've only found 2 or 3 posts of people saying they fixed this issue by logging in to a different server then logging out and restarting the client. That didn't work for me though. But it's still something you could try. This issue is pretty lame. The latest patch notes mentioned the NA servers were expecting technicians to service them soon. I'm hoping that will be able to clear A LOT of issues up. If not I'd be kinda frustrated if it meant I wouldn't be able to use the bookshelf I got from pre-ordering.

Let me know if you guys used the bookshelf or not so i could bump my support ticket with a reference to this thread. We could possibly get contribution points for helping if this turns out to be the cause! I'm pretty sure contributing to solving issues/reporting bugs/reporting cheaters can gets you a GM Box from the mail. Those got awesome loot boxes inside.

I always have one or two alts reading from the bookself in my residence. So when the servers went down I definitely had alts reading.. If I would of known that they had plans to remove Valencia channels I would of made sure they were all logged off completely. Tried making a new char on a completely different server (Orwen), which I was able to do. Completely logged in, completed the tutorial, logged out to desktop. Restarted BDO, tried picking a channel on Uno and got the Cannot change channel due to restrictions error. My characters are still affected by the loss of the Valencia channels.

nope, i didn't use a bookshelf, i don't even own one.

But i did used an anvil in my residence to repair a fishing rod then switched to another character, letting the character repair while i'm on the other character

pretty similar.

Also i tried creating a character on another server and I could join a channel. I even tried switching channel from that server (after waiting the 15 min cooldown) and it worked.

afterward I switched back to my server (Orwen) and still could not get on any channels...

Well, I think that means you might have to wait it out like I did. Sorry bro :(

Okay, so I think we've got something. We three each got this issue while having alt/offline characters perform tasks in a residence. I'm gonna send an update to my support ticket about this thread.

Should you tag this thread with "GM Huego"?

I had a character reading that i had not yet logged back into but the hour it takes to read would have been long over before maintenance.  I did however update my ticket to mention that yesterday.

am not sure that @GM Huego or @CM_Jouska even does anything any more

Put me into the same boat.

I always log out my alts by reading a book, so I have someone "reading" more or less 24 x 7. When they took down Val 2 (the channel I was on), since I was locked to just that one channel, I am no longer able to play the game.

I am semi shocked so few of us are having this trouble. Do so many people just grind and PvP and not do live skills to their fullest?

Has anyone on one locked to one of the channels taken down been table to get back in, it seems like our tickets are being ignored.

Tried this morning, i'm still locked to Val 3, nobody haven't heard anything from a GM/CM yet, nobody reported that their ticket was treated either..

Its almost been 48hrs and still no word from a GM and my ticket has still gone unanswered.

Ive played dozens of online games over the years and I've never experienced such terrible customer service. I'm incredibly disappointed.

Just run into this bug as well. Tried to change channel after being logged in for the whole night, got that message and a disconnect. Tried to go to server selection and back to select another channel, no luck, plus got disconnected every time. I then logged back into the original channel, and set some of my alts to start reading.

I have alts reading books a lot lately, and didn't try to change channels for a number of days up to now. Didn't have any alts actively reading when I tried to switch initially. After setting alts to reading books, can still not switch. But at least it does not disconnect me now upon trying.

Someone replied to my ticket this morning

the solution didn't worked but you might want to try it on your side, you could be luckier than me

Greetings,

I'm GM *****. Thank you for contacting the Black Desert Online Customer Support and your interest in the game.

Please try the following to resolve the issue:

Delete the UserCache folder in "Documents" -> "Black Desert"

Delete the Cache folder in your game installation folder.

Delete the service.ini in your game installation folder.

To attempt a repair you just need to do the following.

--Go to the Black Desert Online installation folder. (Usually C:/Program Files(x86)/Black Desert Online)

-Rename the following file: version.dat to config.filecheck

-Restart the launcher and it will repair your game files

Please note that, it's may (re)download a massive amount of data.

I hope this answers your question and feel free to contact us again, should you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

GM *****

I am amazed you got an answer.  (They have not responded to my ticket at all).

What Category was your ticket in? Mine is other and I kind of feel that is where tickets go to die.

Please tell them this is 100% a server issue and nothing we do on the client end will fix this.

They will try to blame the client and your setup for weeks before even looking at an issue on their end.

What we need to get though to them is this is a SERVER issue, because the lock is on the offline channel issue.

*edit* thanks Bastt,  I did try that and it did not work for me either, but it was worth a shot. I think we have proven this is 100% server side error.

I chose the category "technical issue" then "login problem"

I gave as much details as i could, told them that it really is not a client issue and I gave them the link to this forum thread

i guess it'll take another 2+ days to get another reply

At least there is some progress, now they know that its not client side

maybe they logged you out on the wrong server?

reply back and ask them to log you out or reset your account on every servers
