Maehwa (and Musa) Attack Speed/Delay Bug Solved

It has come to my attention recently since the May 4th patch that my attack speed on my Maehwa seemed to be much slower.  Even with 5 attack speed, I was sure that my attack speed was much lower than it used to be before the patch hit when I only had 4 attack speed.  After many hours of grinding, I noticed a sudden jump in my attack speed and I think I have figured out what is wrong with our attack speed, why is it wrong, and how exactly to fix it.

Disclaimer: I have not fully tested whether this is actually the sole reason why I now have normal attack speed, but it seems to be the most logical conclusion.

Problem:

First of all, there are two definitions of attack speed that need to be differentiated to understand the root of the problem.  The first definition is how fast a single attack is performed (how many frames does it take to start and complete a single attack).  The second definition is the amount of attacks that can be performed in a recorded time period.  What the second definition includes that the first does not is the DELAY between attacks. 

Cause:

Before the May 4th patch hit, everyone read the forums and heard that we shouldn't skill Chase II or Ultimate Chase because they were bugged and didn't actually do anything for the class.  Some time after the patch hit, people figured out that Chase II and Ultimate Chase do have additional effects.  My theory is that before the May 4th patch happened, there was no delay between attacks and Chase II and Ultimate Chase did not work at all.  After the patch hit on May 4th, Chase II and Ultimate Chase were "turned on" which allows you to input commands during the ending frames of an attack animation so that the Maehwa/Musa can "instantly" dash out of an attack.  However, if you only skilled Chase I post-patch, I think that the delay between attacks (attack -> attack, not attack -> chase) has been either increased or switched with the way Chase II and Ultimate Chase work.

So basically, pre-patch had no delay between attack speed because there was no such thing as early cancellable frames (because Ultimate Chase didn't work pre-patch), so we had normal working attack speed (2nd definition).  Post-patch, having Chase II and Ultimate Chase "allows" no delay between attacks because it enables cancellable frames which I think somehow got placed in the category of delay between attack speed. 

Solution:

If you skill both Chase II and Ultimate Chase, or perhaps it is just one of these (I've only tested before both skills were obtained and after both skills were obtained) you should have attack speed similar to what you are used to before the May 4th patch.  This bug only existed for players who did not skill Chase II and Ultimate Chase, which I can understand because of the wariness of spending points in a previously "bugged" skill.

 

tl;dr

Get Chase II and Ultimate Chase and suddenly your attack speed is really fast again.  (You still have a chase cancel if you skill up Chase II, both Chase II and Ultimate Chase are now must-gets because they are fixed.)

Yes, you can cancel Chase II with Slice, this was brought up in the other thread. You do have to go and bind W+W to a key though because you can't hold W+RMB and LMB to chase cancel or you'll just cast decapitation.

yes, I'm pretty sure. 

But if you max chase 2, you can't use w+f chase.

 

You have access to a better chase cancel as I've already mentioned, the auto attack chase cancel.

Why would i take chase2? Sorry but no my atk speed is still shitty eventho i have chase1 and ultimate and i sure as hell won't specc chase2 and break my only was to escape fast just to try to fix a problem that clearly shouldn't be there in the first place.
Now with kickcancel being the ONLY way to escape fast without draining my 460 WP in 2 seconds like with divider cancel i don't see any benefit of this.
Well guess we have to wait it out this week kr gives maehwa its awakening than we'll see if these bugs are actually "adjustments" done for awakenings in kr.

You would want to take chase II because the auto attack chase cancel is exactly the same as the W+F kick cancel if not better. Plus, your movement with whirlwind slash becomes much faster, all your attacks become faster, and you gain access to an even better dash cancel.

Yeah once i get rid of 6th world internet restraint i will test this properly tbh i'm not opposed to it just very skeptic that's all~

It works just fine. Hard to get used to with another keybind for Chase, but definitely worth it to fulfill my desire to live out the remainder of my life as a racecar.

Slice canceling definitely works, it is far superior to kick cancels even at the extra cost of 22 skill points.

Not sure about the attack speed issue, my Red Moon still feels sluggish (I did not have 2/ult trained pre-patch) but I might just be incorrectly remembering how fast it was pre-patch.

I do not use any kicks at all so i bound the ww to f. It is crazy fast and short range to hold it. I think it better to hold wf and press lmb just before the end of the chase.

I'm level 35 and am not entirely sure the chase II cancel ( I'm using WW which is key bound to one of the side triggers on my mouse now + LMB towards the end of each dash) is any faster than the W+F with chase I. I do admit it could all just be in my head.  Will I see a difference once I upgrade to chase ultimate and will that also speed up the delay between attacks again? Going from Whirlwind<>blind trust<>divider<>rising storm seems so much slower especially when the first three felt like they used to connect one immediately after the other.

The ww + lmb cancel does not work with only chase II. If i am not wrong without ultimate chase you get like dash and slash you dont get like a very smooth dash. Once you get ultimate it is going to be a very smooth and short dash when you hold it.

If you are a musa you will probably be using gale after forward blind thrust. If you want to use divider after forward blind trust hold A or D and right click to use it.

Back on topic, this does make attack speed faster.  So, thank you for this post OP.

Sometimes I think it is really hard to tell... one think for sure is i feel that i have longer iframe? because i can cancel faster.

Hm so back in the game and specced Chase2 din't fix anything wearing 5 casting speed fixed it for me though :^)
